One article I read said that the most likely scenario would be 23 hours’ solitary confinement, with an hour of walking around the prison yard*. Meals eaten in his cell.
Way too risky to be near anyone other than the prison guards.
I deliberately left out the word ‘exercising’, since we know how he feels about that.
Should he ever be sentenced to prison time, he’ll be kept in an administrative segregation (ad seg for short) situation.
This is commonly done in all prison systems and populations. He would obviously be segregated from any general prison population, but I doubt he would be kept in solitary confinement as we understand that term. He might be granted access to certain areas of the prison where his Secret Service detail can keep him company.
Were I in his situation, I wouldn’t be too comfortable around some of the prison guards, either.
In supermax prisons, this is a common situation. But I’d be surprised if he is ever housed in a supermax. These are usually reserved for very dangerous people. While it could be argued that Trump is a dangerous person, he’s not dangerous in the way this is generally understood in terms of custody evaluation for an inmate.
I think it’s much more likely he’ll be housed in a Club Fed-type prison where it’s easier to protect him as much as possible.
Exceptions will be made for PAB, then they’ll think of a plausible reason. I seem to recall lesser criminals banned from using social media. That would be a nice start for this guy, that and the “no associating with known felons”. He’d be a lonely fucker.
I think a far more cost-effective solution is to keep him in solitary. Actually, since he had access to so much sensitive information, perhaps he should be in solitary if for no other reason than to make sure he doesn’t divulge anything that could affect national security. That’s purely theoretical, given his lack of reading comprehension and retention plus his total disinterest in learning anything, but still it should be considered.
While it wouldn’t be a good look I don’t see how it would be an international incident. All the domestic MAGAts would be frothing at the mouth about the Deep State, of course, but they’ll start that when he winds up in gaol in the first place.
I can’t see any international leaders making any statements, at least publicly, and if they did, it’s a domestic affair and none of their business.
It’s not up to prison officials. Or judges. It’s solely up to Congress, which would have to change the Protection act to exclude convicted felons from Secret Service protection.
Barring that change, he will have 24/7 Secret Service protection for the rest of his life—regardless of cost. Or location. Or felony convictions.
The State Board of Pardons and Paroles is constituted by Article IV, Section 2 of the Georgia State Constitution. The Governor gets to appoint members as vacancies occur, but doesn’t control the Board. The members serve terms of seven years.
OK, so it’s not the governor specifically who pardons, but hasn’t most or all of that board been appointed by Republicans? Wouldn’t they be just as likely to pardon Trump as a Republican governor would?
For that, you’d have to look at the particular composition, but not all Georgian Republicans are pro-Trump, willing to bend the rules for him; just look at Raffensperger.
