What happens if Trump is indicted in Georgia? (Indicted on August 14, 2023)

IMHO, this is the first time that the confident assumption that Trump will never see the inside of a jail cell has been seriously undermined, and if Trump doesn’t already know this, he surely will by tomorrow. I’m having an extra late-night martini just for that. Fani Willis is my new hero.

Maybe, but if trying 19 people at once, that rules out a number of spaces, no? (I realize it is not simultaneous, but with all the associated personnel and gong show it will need a big venue?)

During Covid time, our courts would do jury selection in hotel convention halls, to ensure social distancing. Courts, like shows, must go on.

Exactly. I participated in court being “in session” during 3 different site views with juries. A little awkward, but it can be done.

I’m going to join you.

Whatever are you talking about? Willis?

Heh, I’m imagining an arena court, Wrestlemania style.

“Ooohhh, the steel chair!”

And I’m going to join both of you. Cheers!

Don’t forget the fringed flag, just to piss certain people off.

Cheers. You’ve talked me into it!

If you hadn’t posted this I would have.

Tomorrow will be interesting. Safe to say The Price is Right will not be on the air. Too bad. It was Dream Car Week.

Tomorrow will indeed be interesting. I expect that Trumpists will take to social media, if they haven’t already, with their “witch hunt” and “politically motivated” accusations. Not to mention a few “but Hillarys” and “let’s go Brandons.” Big talk, but little action, in other words. But I just hope there are no “violence if necessary” and ''let’s get Willis" and similar posts.

I didn’t recognize many of the names.

Excerpt

Among those charged are Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor who served as Trump’s personal attorney after the election; Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows; and several Trump advisers, including attorneys John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, architects of a scheme to create slates of alternate Trump electors.

Also indicted were two Georgia-based lawyers advocating on Trump’s behalf, Ray S. Smith II and Robert Cheeley; a senior campaign adviser, Mike Roman, who helped plan the elector meeting; and three prominent Georgia Republicans who served as electors: former GOP chairman David Shafer, former GOP finance chairman Shawn Still and Cathy Latham of Coffee County.

Several lesser-known players who participated in efforts to reverse Trump’s defeat in Georgia were also indicted, including three people accused of harassing Fulton County election worker Ruby Freeman. They are Stephen Cliffgard Lee, Harrison Floyd and Trevian Kutti. The latter is a former publicist for R. Kelly and an associate of Kanye West.

A final group of individuals charged in the indictment allegedly participated in an effort to steal election equipment data in rural Coffee County, Ga. In addition to Latham, the former county GOP chair, they are former Coffee County elections supervisor Misty Hampton and Georgia businessman Scott Hall.

Trump was [indicted in Washington this month] in a separate Justice Department probe into his various attempts to keep his grip on power during the chaotic aftermath of his 2020 defeat. Some aspects of that four-count federal case, led by [special counsel Jack Smith] overlap with Willis’s sprawling probe, which accuses Trump and his associates of a broad criminal enterprise to reverse Biden’s election victory in Georgia.

But the Fulton County indictment, issued by a grand jury and made public Monday night, is far more encompassing and detailed than Smith’s ongoing federal investigation. Willis declined Monday night to say if she has had contact with Smith.

Some of these defendants are looking at potentially spending the rest of their lives in prison, in Georgia, hot, very hot and very big bugs. Once that sinks in deals will be made.

Would those deals be considered the 2 they need to prove for Rico to kick in?

Another summary.

Especially these 19 people. Batman has a saner rogues gallery.

Note that that’s from Dr_Paprika’s Washington Post excerpted quote, not from the good doctor himself.

Smart move, but if she didn’t have any contact with Smith, she might want to say so. And Smith might want to say that he was never in contact with Willis. From what I’ve seen in just surfing around a right-wing forum, it is assumed that she and Smith are working with each other to bring down Trump however they can.

I’ve been scratching my head over the Coffee county shenanigans for a couple days now. It’s been solidly R since 1984 and in the 2020 election went 70% Trump. But it’s a tiny county and even if all 4,511 votes for Biden were flipped, it would be far, far from the 11,780 votes Trump needed to carry the state.

What did they think they were going to do with the seized Dominion machines?

Sounds like Coffee County is Chock Full O’ Nuts?

I called and called Willis but she wouldn’t speak to me… Guess she’s busy.

Blame Canada!
