What happens if Trump is indicted in Georgia? (Indicted on August 14, 2023)

That bit really was luscious.

I picture her and her staff writing that letter over beers, cheering each other on.

“Tell him to buy the RICO guidance document!”
“Tell him he has to pay for it himself!”

Oh, I agree! I wouldn’t change a word. I was just summarizing in a very base way what I think her overall message was, this time delivered in a refreshingly undisguised manner.

So, a Georgia version of The Cossacks are Writing a Letter to the Sultan?

Holy hannah, that letter from Ms. Willis is priceless. Thanks for the link, @JohnT .

I appreciated the caselaw citations and consequent principles, but I think that some of the best parts were in the introductions to each section of the Voluntary Responses, which dripped with contempt. I particularly liked:

“Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically.”

“Allow me the opportunity to provide a brief tutorial on criminal conspiracy law, Chairman Jordan.”

“I do have some suggestions on how you can engage in productive legislative activity.”

Again, priceless!

Does it involve a suggestion to stick the subpoena into a bodily orifice?

That wouldn’t have been out of place in this response. Well done, Fani!

I still think that she should have pointed out the lack of wisdom of trying to obstruct justice in a case where the suspects are being charged with trying to obstruct justice.

“I’d be happy to have you here before me in the courts of Georgia, as well.”

Oh, I think she made that clear. Particularly under 1(c), starting on page 3: “Your letter improperly interferes with the administration of criminal justice.”

My eyeballs are singed from reading that. Holy hell, what a masterpiece!

Or she could have said, “N U T S !”

They should painfully tattoo the contents of this letter to the inside of Jordan’s eyelids.

I seriously doubt that Jordan read of word of it.

I’ve read this far:

As I make clear below, there is no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter, as you attempt to do. Furthermore, your note calls to mind another letter recently submitted to a House select committee: “This unprecedented action serves no legitimate legislative purpose and would set a dangerous precedent for future Congresses . . . the American people deserve better.” See Letter from Rep. Jim Jordan to Chairman Bennie Thompson dated January 9, 2022.

Just to be clear, did Gym Jordan write a letter in 2022 that smacks down his current request in his own words? Hoist? Petard?

That was some letter. I enjoyed the use of the word “fret”.

I’m fairly positive that Jordan did not read it.

Yes.

The phrase “This unprecedented action…” in Jordan’s letter referred to, I believe, the Select Committee’s subpoena of Jordan regarding his actions and knowledge of 1/6.

I particularly enjoyed the swipe at Lindsey Graham.

This wonderful response was written for the ages, not for Jim Jordan. It will be studied and quoted forever. For sheer bile I can think of few legal equivalents. Really the best comparisons are songs from Dylan’s nasty period. (E.g. “Ballad of a Thin Man” and “Positively Fourth Street”) Can you get a Nobel Prize for a legal document?

(Too bad it contains typos that mar its beauty. How could they have missed them?)

Jim Jordan: “Fuck me, I wish I was smart enough to be able to write a response to that!”

Chairman Jordan, I tell people often “deal with reality or reality will deal with you.”

So DA Willis is admitting to liberal bias?

The special grand jury report will be released Friday morning at 10am. Now that the indictments are in, it will be released, I believe, in full.
