Edit: Erased as it might be too hijack-y.
So it’s being reported that the Eleventh Circuit is moving very quickly to rule on Mark Meadows’ appeal of Judge Jones’ ruling declining to remove Meadows’ case to federal court. The Eleventh has directed DA Willis to file her response by noon tomorrow.
They further ordered Meadows’ team to address the question of whether the rules pertaining to removal to federal court apply to former federal officials – or only to current ones. That’s an interesting question and I’m curious why they asked it.
I had a feeling the Eleventh was going to move fast on these appeals. Looks like it so far.
I know that saying this is heresy, but I’m beginning to think that Trump is saying these insane authoritarian daydreams because he knows - absolutely knows, deep down - that he will never win. He understands that he will never have to live up to any of these pronouncements, that they can never happen even if he does win, that he is just a scared old man who is screaming against the coming darkness.
Maybe his base is eating them up but they give me a strangely satisfying sense of peace.
Sad.
Discourse.
I do agree that his ranting has escalated and become more frantic and desperate, but I must question whether Trump has ever felt even the slightest obligation to deliver on or fulfill anything he’s promised.
I think Trump is just a complete denialist in addition to being a narcissist. Old Fred drilled into him so much that above all else you can’t be a LOSER that he’s internalized the mantra and will deny it to his dying day, in spite of multiple bankruptcies and election losses. And his reality distortion field extends to everyone around him. I don’t think he knows the truth deep down because he’s incapable of dealing with that kind of harsh reality. He may be charismatic (to some people) but he will always be dangerous as a political representative.
Good post, all of it, and I too am curious about the Court’s question to Meadows’ team.
But I’m also surprised at the speed that the Eleventh can move in this matter. I guess when it’s necessary, it can be done. I’ve never argued an appellate matter, but I do remember preparing for a moot appellate court at law school, and it took a lot of time–between research, and filings, and drafting and trading briefs (we called them facta at my school) and crafting arguments to oppose the other side’s factum; it wasn’t something that could be pulled together in a couple of days.
DA Willis and her staff may have to pull an all-nighter, but I am sure they will be prepared. She strikes me as one who could anticipate this, and prepare for any contingency.
This.
He is not aware of anything realistic about himself. He does not understand anything about himself or his situation. He sees only the imaginary reality that plays across his personal screen.
Kenneth Chesebro has filed to have all charges against him dismissed, arguing that he was just lawyerin’ for Trump when he helped come up with the fake electors scheme. So you can suggest anything to your client and even help them commit a crime, and it’s all part of your service to them?

Are any of Trump’s lawyers remotely competent?
There was one who represented him but then left? I don’t remember them all. I get the sense some are brought in as pitch-hitters then dropped after they aren’t needed, or after the headline “TRUMP GETS FANCY NEW LAWYER” fades away. Anything to keep his name out there and show off his wealth.
FWIW: Pinch hitter.
I suspect he really thinks that’s his body on those NFT trading cards.
Trump assured us he had some of the best lawywers in the nation lining up to take his cases. And if you can’t trust the word of a former president I don’t know who you can trust.
Any lawyer taking Trump as a client is a moron. Q.E.D
Of course! You can’t go after a lawyer who is just doing their job. Same with a doctor; if a person dies as the result of a botched treatment, the doctor was just doctoring, you can’t fault them for it.
Meadows motion to stay the decision which sent his case back to Georgia is DENIED:
Really nicely written order. Made my morning
I wonder if Trump and his henchmen are ever going to get tired of losing.
She probably had a staffer start work on it the instant Meadows filed his appeal.
