Is “mainstream” a positive or negative attribute?

How many bedrooms are under your rock?
Do you own or rent your rock?
Is your rock in a good school district?
I slightly disagree. If you’d said ignorant of the case(s), I’d agree. I know a number (not large granted) of people who are likely impartial in the sense that they consider themselves or have become entirely apolitical. The end-result of so-called ‘honest’ bothsider-ism. They consider both sides equally politically corrupt so they refuse to associate with any. Not actually anarchists of any stripe, but more the sort that just don’t want to be involved in any way.
A small number, but they exist. Although, on second thought, it’s not so much impartial, but that they hate all of the factions. So perhaps equally biased instead?
And I’m sure if you put a gun to their head, they might agree that this or that politician is worse, so, who knows?
Do they vote at all? What, for who is taller?
I don’t buy it. I think there are a LOT of Trump supporters that are embarrassed to be Trump supporters. Closet racists and bigots. They KNOW that would get them ostracized from decent society, so they won’t talk about it.
Oh, not at all. They’re quite proud of it. They say voting for anyone is just as bad, so the only way they can stay clean is to not participate at all.
I’d be tempted to call them anarchists, but another poster in a prior thread said that I cannot do so. So I stick to saying they hate all parties, as well as the system that supports them.
Note, I’m not saying this group is politically effective in any way, just that technically, they’d be apolitical (in the sense that they hate (D) and (R) equally) if called up for jury duty.
That’s fine. Uninformed people should stay away from the ballot box.
How it is possible to be uniformed in todays world is a puzzle.
On the contrary, it’s easier than it’s ever been. You know how there is a right-wing bubble where magats never hear anything except for the party line? There are essentially an infinite number of bubbles that you can get ensconced in and never hear anything outside of them. Maybe the only media they consume is about World of Warcraft, or NASCAR, or Bruce Springsteen, etc etc. You actually have to consciously choose to listen to news to know what’s going on.
It’s not like back in the day when there were only three channels and at 7pm all of them were showing news so that’s all you got if you wanted to watch TV.
Even with music, I assume most people nowadays just listen to Spotify or whatever instead of the actual radio. Is there even an emergency broadcast system for those streaming music services? Like if there were another 9/11, would somebody streaming music even know?
They’re all over the place; some of them even carry badges.
Well, you know those uniform people are all alike.
I work with such a person. When the Jan 6 committee was on all the time, my coworker was baffled that it was a thing. “I heard there was a riot or something a while back.”
I was pissed off.
My other coworker is a Republican. Not too rabid. He’s more of a Survivalist.
Well, here’s an interesting bit.
NYT is publishing an e-mail from Chesebro, whose trial starts this week iwth jury selection.
Responding to the question whether Trump should start an election challenge in Wisconsin, Chesebro apparently wrote:
Lawyers are not to start groundless lawsuits. A lawyer can start a lawsuit that may not be strong, arguing that either the facts of the case support the claim, or that the law needs to change.
Starting a lawsjuit that you admit has a 1% chance of success, but for political reasons, strikes me as going against that principle.
This e-mail chain may undercut Chesebro’s argument that he was just providing legal advice, as well as any defence by Trump that he was just following the advice of counsel.
I’m not standing up for the guy. But did he mean
the relevant analysis by my boss trump on whether to proceed or not is based by trump on purely political grounds.
Said another way: “No matter what I advise, he’s gonna do it anyhow if he wants to.”
Which cuts to the heart of how much a lawyer is answerable to anything beyond the greed and ambition of their client. Officially, the whole ethical attorney as Officer of the Court schtick is still in effect nationwide. Practically, ISTM that ship has completely sailed for a sizeable fraction of the active lawyers, and especially the very high-priced ones doing serious work for serious fatcats and corps.
Having been married to a fully ethical attorney for 33 years, I say that with a lot of sadness and no cynicism.
If the attorney knows his client wants to proceed with a bullshit suit simply to jerk the system around, he is supposed to decline representation.
But like you said, many ships have well sailed these days.
Possibly so, but perhaps Mr Chesebro will discover in his criminal trial that his ship sailed over the edge of the world.
Yes, plenty of bubbles that support racists and bigots (that’s just a start). One bubble pops, they go to the next and donate or buy a pillow.
So I suppose I’m wrong. My BIL and SIL are Trump supporters, well off, well spoken and very much fun to hang with.
I was at their house once, they had left for church (thanks, but no) and I turned the constant bullshit that is FOX over to CNN on their kitchen TV. It was immediately turned back to FOX when they got home.
Admittedly a bit of an experiment on my part, I wasn’t really watching TV. I think on that same visit, he took down a Trump/Pence banner that was in his barn. Was a big birthday bash.
Good for him to not bring politics into a big party. Or, perhaps, he is having second thoughts.
per cnn:
sidney powell pleading guilty! in court as i type.
showing the court now.
Wow, that’s news! Nothing on MSNBC yet.
The question is whether she’ll be found competent to enter a plea. (I’m only half joking.)
ABC is confirming that she’s taking a plea deal.
12 months probation, must testify truthfully, various fines, can not speak to press or anyone involved in the trial until all defendants are done.
prosecutors wanted 6 years probation.
she is going with the first offender act.
