For the past decade now every single new release movie seems to have had a linked promotional twitter account, so what happens to those Twitter accounts years after the movies are long and gone from the public mind? What’s the Mr. 3000 twitter account up to for instance?
I know the simplest answer is “They get abandoned shortly after the DVD release” but curious if there’s any movie account that are still attempting to stay relevant? How’s the Dark Universe twitter account fairing?
Are those accounts free like most twitter accounts? If they are not free I would think they would be shut down after the DVD is released.

The answer is a little bit of every menu option. Some accounts deactivate, some stop tweeting entirely, and some occasionally still tweet. I took a look at the accounts in the 2015 article below by Mike Ryan…
…and the World War Z account occasionally tweets still, but the rest are inactive or gone.
