Question for lawyers: As I understand it, if you represent a defendant in a criminal matter once they’re indicted, you cannot withdraw from the case. If that’s true, what happens if money your client has paid you runs out before the trial concludes? Are you allowed to drop the client if that person wants to appeal and is in arrears on your fee?
So does the “cannot drop from case (without judge’s permission)” include any appeals also, to the bitter end, or just the current trial?
