I use the ignore feature there, but I do here, too.
Life is short and then you find you are going to spend your old age in a dystopian story you didn’t see coming, weird.

Darn, my end game was to leave my wife and kids an envelope with my Doper name and password, and let them "read up on me’ if they still had any questions.
But it may not be here then… (which’ll probably be a moot point. My kids weren’t interested in my coin/stamp/comic collections, why would they want to read Silly Dad Stories?).
By the bye, if we end up at r/sdmb, we definitely need some more current content there.
Looks like they are coming.
Short synopsis. ICE wants to use AI to monitor all social media for malcontents.
I guarantee you they will be targeting major social media platforms and not tiny old message board web sites. It even says so explicitly in the summary.
Under the proposal, ICE would partner with private contractors to monitor platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for information and leads that can be passed on to officers in the field.
They also said all social media. I guarantee that they’ll be monitoring all message boards they can identify.
Message boards aren’t really considered social media anymore. It’s a dying platform.
They’re not going to waste their time with a place like this. Not enough to bother with.
This is a subject that’s been gone over in this thread repeatedly already.
I think you may be whistling past the graveyard. The point of the article was that they intend to use AI and automated programs to trawl the whole internet..
ROFLMAO, good luck to them on that one.

Doing a half-assed incompetant job is more likely to be more dangerous to innocent bystanders than a focused and competant one.
This is ICE we are talking about.
Their entire goal is to threaten something impossible like this. The idea of somehow being able to scour everything on the internet is hilarious. But they don’t have to actually do it. Just announce it, and that intimidates people who think it’s possible.
And it is not as if they are in the habit of lying.
Right?
Of course not! That would be wrong.
At the very least, Kristi Noem will be coming for the Trump pit threads.
Let the pre-emptive flowery tributes begin!
Unless they get a specific complaint which draws their attention.
Of course, but that can apply to any place at any time. There’s a difference between “the government is coming for you”, and “you have said something that might get you in trouble and someone rats you out”.
Even 20 years ago, the wrong kind of comment that could get this board in trouble might have led to consequences. This board has rules that are supposed to protect this board, such as not promoting illegal behavior, or violating copyrights, or making threats of violence, etc. That isn’t any different with the current Trump administration. The only potential difference is the threshold for what might spur the government to take action. This government is particularly petty and is known to take action against people and organizations for completely spurious reasons, sometimes even in violation of the law, so that threat might be greater now than ever. But it has always been the case that a complaint combined with actionable content could be a threat to this place. Every website/podcast/video channel/whatever has to be mindful of that.
They’ll go after the big players first - TikTok, Instagram, etc. Both because they’re low-hanging fruit and because there are opportunities for extortion.
Old fashioned message boards like this one are on The List, but they’re pretty far down the list.
Will ‘they’ come for the entire board and try to shut it down, or will they demand to know the identities of posters who dare to say something nasty about Dear Leader?
I don’t know - ask me again after they “come for” the big name social media, then we’ll have a better idea of where this is going.
Given how vengeful they tend to be, I assume it’s going to be the latter.
Also, their MO tends to be more about threats than action. (I am talking about the administration in general, not ICE specifically, as that is what is driving this.) So the inquiry about personal info to intimidate people into shutting up, or at least no longer criticizing Trump, that would be the goal.
TikTok being shut down is a completely separate matter (having to do with its Chinese ownership) but generally, there is no talk about shutting down platforms AFAIK. They’re going after people. And why would they want to shut down a message board? That cuts off their surveillance. Better to keep it open so they can watch what people do and go after them. That would be like cops who want to bust drug dealers trying to shut down a park where drug deals happen. That park is a gold mine if they know there is a single gathering place to find offenders. And if they shut down the park, those dealers will just go somewhere else to sell drugs, and they’ve accomplished nothing.
No, this is about attacking people, not platforms. The platforms would only be under threat if they get in the way of the government’s efforts somehow, but they may not be able to, as the government can probably just get what they need from most platforms thanks to what people voluntarily provide about themselves.
I think trump would have his “cops” arrest all the drug dealers and deport them. And if one or two of those drug dealers die in the process, well things happen.
