So, you have no cites, claimed there were lots of cites in this thread but could not point to one, and used an anecdote that you now claim is not what it seemed to be.
Wiggle and dance all you want. You got nothing.
I have said, over and over and over in this thread that Biles absolutely should withdraw if she felt she was not able to compete.
I have also said we should not praise nor ridicule her for that choice.
It is a time honored tradition amongst the sdmb’s many “certain posters” to get in the last word, there is no moving on for any of them thus the preponderance of redundant arguments in favored fora by certain posters.
…so, you have no cites, when asked if you had any special insight into this story claimed that you didn’t, but now you are claiming that your 54 years of life is your cite.
Dude, you have repeatedly accused her of letting down her team, her country, and asserted she behaved improperly by not withdrawing from the team at an earlier time.
You say she made the right choice to withdraw, but you clearly think she must be a person of poor character to have ever gotten to that point.
Nope. It’s what i said. I said it was responsible of her to step down so her teammates had a chance to win. That she was doing the best she could to help her team by recognizing she couldn’t bring I a string performance. I also added that i was personally delighted she won’t become paraplegic live on TV.
@Banquet_Bear went on to add that the reason she’s being praised for the decision is that in the past, Olympic athletes have been pressured to compete despite having the twisties, (and have been seriously injured) and she is breaking new ground by saying, “No”, and that’s something that’s a really good precedent for future Olympic athletes.
A reminder to all present that this is the Game Room and this thread has a specific topic. Let’s not make this all too personal or engage in too much metadiscussion not about the Simone Biles thing.
Gee, I dunno - we don’t make football players run on broken legs?
We have stopped demanding people with concussions keep playing?
Most sports don’t have “broken neck” as a possible bad outcome?
If someone is at high chance of injury it’s flat-out stupid to ask them to play. You have been provided with examples of gymnasts who literally broke their necks and wound up quadriplegic or dead.
Remember Rick Ankiel? How many times has that happened?
Does that mean it didn’t happen? Because that would be a neat trick, considering that millions watched it happen live.
Nobody is denying that this is an unusual situation, it’s the framing of this situation to knock Biles as a competitor that is being resisted. She didn’t “let down” anyone, and she shouldn’t have done anything different than she did.
