[ul][li][DEl]Learned not to post while drunk[/DEl][/ul][/li]
:smack:
Wow, in 10 years? I don’t think I’ll get everything.
I was 14 when I joined and am 24 now.
-Graduated high school at 16
-Graduated with an A.A.S. in nursing at 20
-Graduated with my BSN at 23
-Started graduate school to become a nurse practitioner at 23
-First date and first kiss at 16, next few duds,
-Got married at 23
-Got two cats
-Worked a few part-time retail jobs until I started nursing school, then got my first hospital job as a nurses’ aid, now working my second hospital job that I started as an RN 4 years ago.
-Went from being a virtuoso violinist at 13 and thinking I wanted to be a professional musician to (obviously) changing my career path toward nursing
-Moved out of my parents’ house at 19, moved a few more times, settled in at my current place 2 years ago
-Heh. I bet I probably got my braces off since I joined. I was 14 then.
-You could probably just go ahead and say that I’ve been an SDMB member (and mostly a lurker, with my post count sub-300) for most of the major events of my life. Wow.
Oh, please. If I didn’t post while drunk, I’d hardly post at all.
Some might say this is a good thing. :dubious:
Since December 2001, I’ve:
Tripled my income.
Gotten married.
Became a dad.
Have had three cars.
Moved to Chicago.
Worked on Barack Obama’s senate and presidential campaigns.
Moved back to Michigan.
Acquired more than 400,000 Priority Club points
Tossed around the idea of starting my own business, which I will be doing in the spring
Become the owner of a great old boxer-pit bull.
Bought a condo in Chicago, which I then tried selling for three years to no avail, even at a loss of $40,000. Foreclosed.
Bought a big old house in Michigan with my wife.
Knocked up my wife again, which will result in a baby girl in February.
So, how are the JRT and the beagle getting along?
Since 1999:
My mom and brother died within six months of each other in 2001
Sold a house, bought a house, moved
My dog Boomer (The Best Dog Ever) died, and Ricky the cat
We adopted Sadie, a golden-doodle
I quit a job I thought I’d retire from
Took a part-time job at a community college
Became an “election official”
Elected to the city council (two terms) and was recently appointed city clerk
Broke a hip and had my gall bladder removed
Took a few trips to Seattle to visit family – one was my first Amtrak adventure
Started quilting
Traveled to Ohio to meet people I only knew from the internet (I think the Dopefests were the inspiration)
Let’s see. I joined in 1999. Since then…

[li]Spent New Year’s Eve 2000 at my friends’ self-sufficient soler house… just in case.[/li][li]Went to Europe in 2000. Spoke Esperanto for a week. Fell in love with Finland. Completely failed to impress European women.[/li][li]Survived a round of layoffs.[/li][li]Continued group therapy to learn how to be social.[/li][li]Almost took medical leave due to burnout, but pulled out of it.[/li][li]Group therapy ended.[/li][li]Helped my father move out of Oshawa and up north to be with relatives. This included paying for part of the move and cleaning up a smoker’s apartment (still the most disgusting thing I’ve ever had to deal with.)[/li][li]Got mad at my PC and broke it. Saved up for four months and bought a Mac.[/li][li]Visited my sister up north.[/li][li]Found out about Ontario Building Code qualifications and started taking courses.[/li][li]Passed sufficient courses to be allowed to sell drawings. [/li][li]Registered a business, got insurance.[/li][li]Discovered that I needed to run AutoCAD, which is a Windows program, so installed Windows on the Mac.[/li][li]Survived a round of layoffs.[/li][li]Decided to back off on the houses.[/li][li]Got laid off. Houses were back on the agenda.[/li][li]Met beautiful Jamaican woman; started to date.[/li][li]Beautiful Jamaican woman broke up with me. So much for romance. At least I had some dates during the decade…[/li][li]Took a Japanese course.[/li][li]Started to spend time in Bancroft. This included renting a small and friendly yet ramshackle house for the summer.[/li][li]Moved to Bancroft permanently (found a better place for the winter).[/li][li]Bought a car.[/li][li]Started to do artwork as well as house design. Now illustrating a book, designing a house, and doing other stuff. [/li][/ul]So in a weird way, I’m back to doing what I did in high school: solar houses, writing, and art. Even with the layoff, though, the decade was better than the 1990s, during which much of my immediate family died.
When I joined I was a 31 year old married mother of a 10 year old.
I’ll be 41 next month.
I’ve been divorced
Single parent for the next several years

Made another pretty baby who will be six next month.
Got my first cell phone. And my second one just this year.
Lost a few pounds, gained them back.
Dropped my religion
Quit smoking
Took up studying Buddhism
Joined the gym.
Sorry I’m mistaken. I wasn’t still married in 2000. I was online when I was married but not a member here. The Dope was still on AOL back then.
I joined in October 2002, although I lurked for about a year before that.

[li]While lurking, my father died.[/li][/ul]

I’m probably forgetting stuff, but then again, you really didn’t care about the stuff I remembered.
A lot.
I’ve been unemployed, moved a lot, and so on, and so forth.
The only part that I am certain I shared was my excursion to Canada in 2007, which drew a lot of attention.
I think I joined in 1999.
I’ve moved six times, gotten engaged, disengaged, reengaged, married, separated. I’ve had a little girl. I’ve visited over two hundred different cities, taken about seven hundred commercial flights to three different countries, and been to the top of the three tallest structures on the continent.
I’ve seen over 150 major league baseball games in 15 different stadiums, 12 NHL games, 5 NBA games, and not a single pro football game.
I’ve gained 50 pounds and lost it again.
I’ve held three different jobs and made about six hundred thousand dollars in pre-tax income. I’ve bought a lot of stuff, most of which don’t really matter, but a few things really do.
I’ve gained a neice (biologically) and a nephew (best friend’s kid.)
I’ve played a lot of video games.
I’ve celebrated eleven birthdays.
I’ve lost a wonderful dog and two wonderful cats.
I missed a hole in one by an inch.
I’ve owned five different cars.
I’ve gotten a lot smarter and, sadly, older, and such is life.
I have my Small Girl, and so things are fine.
Yeah, you were supposed to come visit us in Calgary, but you never made it here. (It’s okay - we’ll still buy you a beer when you come back to Canada. )
I will say that I had the great pleasure of meeting Frank when he went through Edmonton, when I was living there. I’ll look forward to meeting him again, should he ever make his way through a city where I’m living.
November 2004… where was I… Costa Rica? Think so. Not quite in order:
Went home for Christmas figuring I was about fired, it was the boss (who’d faked her resume, adding ten years to it) who got caught and fired instead, got a new boss who made us work 12x6 for a month before realizing that all he was getting that way was a very burned-out team, left that project before they could fire me on grounds of “the boss doesn’t like you cos you don’t kiss his ass, and even less because he can’t accuse you of anything”, spent a month in a project which is famous in Spain for being a great example of How Not To Do Things, spent a couple months doing support in a company whose support team lead gave us the jewel “I don’t pay you to think, I pay you to solve problems”, bought a flat, spent one year working in Switzerland, got self employed, got a Nephew, my relationship with The Proud Parents improved thanks to The Nephew, got a Niece that I think of as “The Field Marshal”, Littlebro got a flat and moved out of Mom’s (much to her chagrin), got a job in Bilbao/Glasgow, left that job for health reasons one year and a nice chunk of mortgage later, took a one-year sabbatical to get a degree in Translation, hated the ISP at the university, loved Edinburgh, got a job in Seville, had the pleasure to tell the Bilbao/Glasgow people “sorry, got a job” when they called to offer me one.
Buf. Lots of things. Oh yes, and the Gramps from Hell died, and I got to meet BooFae and 'im indoors, and went to a LonDopeFest, and last year (it was only last year?) I celebrated both my birthday and having left the Bilbao/Glasgow job by watching We Will Rock You (in London, thank God I didn’t make the mistake of going to see it in Spain… I almost fainted when someone told me they’ve translated the songs - what the FUCK?).
