I just want to thank all my Doper friends

Being a barrister is sometimes a bit on the stressful side. I am so lucky to have stumbled on the SDMB where there are so many entertaining conversations, deep thoughts, and kitties. You all have helped me over the years to relax on tired evenings, stressful mornings, and everything in between.

Thanks, all.

Ditto. Life is difficult and all of you make it not only tolerable, but a pleasure. Dipsticks and all.

I wandered back here after fleeing Twitter and trying (and failing) to enjoy Mastodon. I’m really you guys were here.

This place keeps me informed, entertained, and sane, and it all has to do with all the personalities here (those who post, and the mods). Thank you!

I love you all, and I’m drunk.

It’s a crazy insane place that keeps me above water.
TY

I agree, and you deserve thanks as well; your posts on law and on history are always illuminating.

I just have one quibble …

Certain other four-legged beloved companions are celebrated here too, you know!

@Northern_Piper , you have encouraged me to get where I am. My forever thanks to you; I’d never be where I am without you.

But thanks go to other Dopers as well. I’ve got some great advice in all areas, met some fascinating people (hey @Le_Ministre_de_l_au-dela , do you remember the night you and I closed a Toronto bar and I damn near missed the last Yonge subway train northbound, and @Cat_Whisperer , you and I and Jimbo have to get together again soon).

And I met somebody who died shortly after we met. See “King Bobo” in the “In Memoriam” thread.

This place–you folks–you are a part of my life, and have been for at least a third of my life; you are family. I may disagree with you, but dammit, you are family, to a guy who basically has none. You’ve seen me through some very trying times, and I thank you all for helping.

Not sure how to sign off, so I will once again say, “thank you” to all Dopers.

This seems like a good place to repurpose some doggerel that I originally posted in another thread.

A generation’s passed since I
First posted on the Dope
My mind had bright ideals, then
My heart was full of hope

That ignorance, our bête noire
Would soon be banish-ed
Alas! My hopes were all forlorn
The trolls were quite well-fed.

It seemed we were surrounded by
Ponies with just one trick.
One guy liked gals with poofy hair
Another, an uncut dick.

Our mods all strove heroically
To be troll-spam tide-turners
From bots who promised soccer games
To Dopers with fat burners

Yet there were bright spots on this site
It wasn’t all travails
Cervaise v. telemarketers
Plus pan-fried semen tales.

And it’s been educational
These years of Dope-ly prose
I got to find out what “squick” means!
And “felch” (don’t google those).

The years have been quite wonderful
This life in these here yards
I hope there’s twenty more of them
Before I say “Regards.”

I HATE you guys!

If it weren’t for all the time I have wasted on SDMB in the last 20 years, I would have undoubtedly written the Great American Novel, cured cancer, and secured world peace.

I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. If you all weren’t so interesting, informative, entertaining, funny, and fascinating, the world would be a much better place. And I would be rich and famous. Thanks a lot!

But seriously, folks.

There are two Dopers in particular I would like to call out for their outstanding breadth and depth of knowledge, excellent writing skills, and overall exemplary Doperishness: @Stranger_On_A_Train and @LSLGuy. Their posts are consistently well informed, well reasoned, and well written, often at great length.

To paraphrase a Jewish blessing: other Dopers have done superbly, but you surpass them all.

I have learned quite a lot here, and this place has provided lots of entertainment. Thank you, Dopers!

Pfft. You want a sad commentary on time wasted? Try over 42K posts, most of which were drivel! I’m actually shocked at my slothly ways.

Ditto. I love you all!

I’ve been here for over 2 years, and it’s such a lovely little place. I enjoy reading discussion threads and talking with the folks in MMP threads. It’s such a welcoming tight-knit community, and I hope it stays that way for years to come. Thanks y’all.

It is fantastic that the SDMB has meant so much to you.

Here’s my little cutie pumpkin.

Glad to be of service! And, I completely agree – this place is another home for me, and I consider so many of you to be friends.

That’s Mr. Dipstick to you, buddy!

Hear, hear — to all of the above.
Thank you, teeming millions.
I mean teeming thousands.
Teeming hundreds!
Dozens?

I have a cat that looks similar to that one. I can tell it isn’t him, though, because that cat is sitting still instead of compulsively biting the cardboard to bits.

Personally, I’m glad everyone is here, especially the entity that is clearly a mutant hummingbird, no matter what it says. I actively joined (ie created an account and started posting) due to the social isolation of COVID after being a lurker following suggested threads from the old columns for decades.

It had helped immensely. And as the same years accelerated the toxic separation of our society politically, helped that this was a place I could vent and argue points with only a few people who would ignore facts, rather than reams of them.

I had a cat who would do that. He hated boxes. I wish I had a video but one time I was sitting on the couch and I heard him come running into the living room from the kitchen and he literally leaped at it head first and headbutted the box. Then he turned into a ball of claws and fangs on the box. Seeing that cat headbutt the box was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. It was so obviously intentional too. It wasn’t a flubbed jump, he charged and jumped straight towards the box. I miss that cat. I miss all my former furry companions.
