Simmerdown, didja check craisglist to see if anyone’s trying to sell it?
My wallet. Which turned up two years later at my parent’s address, minus the cash. Of course, it was a world of hassle to replace, so it’s like I never got it back.
Good luck, hope you get it back.
Nope. Got it back.
Here’s what happened: Monday morning I went to lost and found. The surly, angry woman tried to make me feel foolish, and said that I was the third person in 6 months to leave their guitar behind on a train. None of the others had recovered their instruments. Decided to take the same late train I took Friday night so I could talk with the conductor. He said “Yep, I turned that guitar in”. So this morning I back I went to lost and found, and this time the woman asked me what make it was (I was prepared to answer all manner of questions about the contents), and told me it was indeed turned in. She took my ID, photocopied it and made me sign it, as well as some sort of a tag. Through the window I could see her go down a hall, disappear, then reappear with the guitar which she then DROPPED FROM WAIST HEIGHT ONTO THE FLOOR, obviously on purpose. I was stunned speechless. Then she told me to meet her at a side door, after which she opened said door and DROPPED THE GUITAR FROM WAIST HEIGHT ONTO THE FLOOR AGAIN, to which I immediately protested: “why did you drop that?!!!?!?!?” “I’m just givin’ it you ya!” was the terse and angry response she gave before quickly disappearing through the door and slamming it shut.
Now I fully realize the careless nature of my actions in losing the guitar in the first place, but this was the absolute worst customer service experience I have ever had (yes, I am a customer, I spend over $150 monthly to ride her fucking train). As soon as I get a little downtime, I’m going to call and write to Metra/UP.
BTW, the guitar seems to be OK.
When I was 8 and my sister was 6 we left our babysitter asleep on a bus. Does that count?
Glad to hear that!
And holy crap, that’s some bad customer service.
My dinner: two chilidogs in a paper bag. Got home and realized I was missing something.
At least one cheap cell phone that I thought I had put back in my bag after using. Got a call from Metro lost and found, bus division, and went to retrieve it. The one before that probably also fell out on the bus after I missed putting it in my bag; nobody reported finding it.
Oh, yeah: one third-generation iPod. Might have fallen out on a train, or could have been lifted out of my bag by the guy behind me on the escalator. All I know is the night before, I left it at work and went back for it, had it that night, and couldn’t find it when I got to work the next morning. It was about time for a new one anyway; the battery evidently wasn’t holding a full charge anymore.
I realized shortly after submitting my OP that I might have given out too much information. Probably not that many public transportation lost and found departments in Chicago that would have a Martin guitar that was lost on Friday night. Not that there are any unsavory characters like that on The Dope, but…
Anyway, I’m rather :o about that. Lucky on two counts now.
What store’d you get it at? I can stop by and see if they still have it, or if they can get more, if you life.
I haven’t left anything on public transport since I was a child, when I once left my sports bag on the train on the way home from school.
Just remembered the time I was a 20-something mailroom clerk, waiting for my train to work. Sat down on the bench, yawned, and my blue knit cap slid off and over the railing.
