I have not been able to find any info on a beautiful French-Canadian (Acadian) folk song I heard long ago on CBC Radio. I believe it is called “Le Gras De Vie”. Tried CBC Radio - no help, too late. Can’t find it in any “expert” record stores either
Hie yourself to the Johnson Smith catalog, my friend.
your humble TubaDiva
or not.
I metioned this a while ago, but if anyone could find a site that had a lot of the defining photographs of the 20th century, such as the Tiananmen Square photo with the tanks, etc… I’d appreciate it.
Ok, how about this one?
Or, you could buy a full bottle of McEwen’s Scotch Ale at ebay. That auction includes these pictures:
There are only 6 hours left, so bid fast!
I misread that - there are 6 DAYS left on that auction, so no hurry.
thanks tubadiva, if that would have helped i would be happy now. but it didnt so i am sad once again.
Cool! Thanks Shayna.
An mp3 of Solly’s Beard by Yes. However, I just found out that they put out a CD of this (it was formerly only on the 9012Live tape which I played to death), so I have hopes of finding that online somewhere.
Not sure if this is related or not, but there’s a 1966 book of humor pieces by the New Yorker’s S.J. Perelman called “Chicken Inspector #23”. Bookfinder found dozens of copies, and there’s even one up for auction at Yahoo. You might have to find a copy of the book to see if the pins were inspired by Perelman.
I also found a link to an auction of a “chicken inspector #23” pin, but the link is dead (auction is probably over.) However, this unnumbered chicken inspector pin is still available.
Well, Audiostreet.co.uk, which is a CD site I use, seems to be offering it for sale.
Ale to Beans to Carts, and still no Tom Cruise masks? (Still, that’s +/- 33 hits and only one miss, and I suppose nobody can find something if it doesn’t exist. See ‘the lack of penguins in the lower left drawer of this desk’).
Once I looked and looked for how to make a bomb. Congressmen always talked about “you can find out how to make a bomb on the internet” when they want to be censors. So I looked. Now I was looking for something that would take down a building but all I found was potatoe guns and the like. I did visit this Klan site because the description said the site had a ‘Kids Korner’. The kid section had this interactive art thing that was kind of cool and totally not Klan related.
I don’t really want to blow up a building I just wanted to see if the claims of United State Senators were true.
You can definitely find bomb making instructions, and I’ve seen them (this was a couple of weeks ago). I’m not going to post any addresses, (1) because I didn’t write any down – I’m not actually interested in making bombs – and (2) because I doubt the mods or the Chicago Reader would appreciate it!
There are a dozen people who have that particular song available for download on [link deleted by moderator].
And you’re very welcome, CheapBastid! Is that what you were looking for? I thought it was interesting that the pictures of the bottle that’s up for sale at ebay have the name spelled MacEwens on the label. I wonder when/why it was changed.
[Sorry, but it currently the policy of the Chicago Reader to not provide links to Napster or Napster-related sites until the courts decide it’s legality once and for all -slythe]

Hmm…couldn’t find much, but The Daily Mirror (UK) has a small section of 20th century photos. No Tianenmen Square, though.
If that address doesn’t work, just go via http://www.mirrorpix.com
Havok -
Many major news organizations have online “Photos of the Century” Galleries.
Here’s one from the Associated Press. Just looking through this collection gave me chills. (Especially the Challenger picture.)
The New York Daily News also has a great collection online.
Neither of these collections includes the Tianmen Square photo, but it can be found accompanying this CNN Article.
Here’s the online exhibit of the Pulitzer Prize winning photographs. Some show great events, others are just great photos.
I looked for information on male childcare providers and could not find any, so I started my own male childcare provider site at http://homea.tt.net/new_page_1.htm
the correct address for the above web page is http://home.att.net/~elterrier/new_page_.htm
SORRY HERE IT IS FINALLY… http://home.att.net/~elterrier/new_page_1.htm
