What have you won by calling into a radio show?

Golden Earring, too; don’t recall who was “green”.

The question, as originally submitted, was about songs on their playlist rather than groups; I guess they decided asking about songs was too easy.

Green Day?

They might not be “classic” enough; this was about 20 years ago.

The Kinks?

They are The Village Green Preservation Society.

I came up with Deep Purple, Yello, and Green Day.

Tickets to a Ball game, which I gave away, a gift cert to a restaurant, which I used, and tickets to a concert- which I also gave away.

Yeah, I was struggling to think of any other classic rock group with “green” in their name – and Green Day is hardly classic rock. Of course, there are a few artists with the name Green, like Fleetwood Mac founder Pete Green and notorious wife beater Al Green, but it doesn’t sound like those fit the bill.

Obviously it must be Green Gartside from Scritti Politti.

Back in the late 80s when there had been few enough Super Bowls that I had them all memorized I called in a sports talk show to answer the question, “Name all the teams that have won their only Super Bowl appearance.” I won a book of Sports Trivia.

You should post this question in the Sports Trivia thread in the Game Room.

At this point it should just be the teams that haven’t made an appearance. What - Lions, Browns, Texans? Is that it?

Anyway, I just won Beach Boys tickets, to the delight of mrs.gnu, and I play again tomorrow.

Add the Jaguars to this list.

N/m. Missed the “appeared” part.

Not a radio show but I won a board game by entering a trivia contest on a website.

It sounded like @Pixeldent 's question wasn’t “which teams haven’t appeared in the Super Bowl,” but (paraphrasing) “which teams have made only one appearance in the Super Bowl, which they won?”

In the early 80s I won a couple of nice suitcases for being the first to say what Moody Blues album title was a mnemonic (weird prize, I know, but the suitcases served me well).

In the 70s I won a copy of a David Gates and Bread album, which my stepfather had to drive downtown to pick up. He probably could have just bought it for me with less effort…he was pretty mad, and I don’t blame him.

I won tickets to see Tom Petty and Steve Winwood by answering a question (what was Tom Petty’s name in The Traveling Wilburys). The traffic at that venue (Jiffy Lube Live) was so horrendous I swore I’d never go to another concert there.

In the the late 70s I answered a morning trivia question on the local Los Angeles rock station (KMET or KLOS). The question was What is the longest running tv show? The answer was and still is Meet the Press. I won the Blondie album Parallel Lines. It had a chunk intentionally cut off the corner of the cover I suppose to prevent resale. I owned a few trivia books so I looked it up first. I didn’t know it off the top of my head.

The cool thing was it was before school so lots of my classmates heard it live including an entire school bus.

Keep it going @garygnu !

There was a guy here in Montreal running a small station. Like me he was from Philly. So he asked what player of the Philadelphia As had the most HRs. The announcer’s name started with a Z and he liked contests whose answer had a Z in it, so I called and guessed Gus Zernial. I was the only person who phoned in that answer so I won the prize. Which turned out to be a bunch of schlock, not worth the effort of picking up.

This wasn’t a phone-in, but CBC had a show featuring pizza recipes. They may have solicited recipes, but I didn’t know it was a contest. I got an email telling me to come to the station and pick up my prize. Which was a $50 gift certificate for what turned out to be very fine Italian restaurant. My wife and I went and with wine and tip our meals cost about $100 (in the 1990s), but of course it cost me only half that.

One of my daughters won a radio contest a few years ago, but not a call-in one. At the end of every summer, the local rock station gives away a prize package. All summer long, the station does live broadcasts at local businesses where you can sign up to win.

Her prize package included a huge hot tub, patio furniture, an outdoor home theater system, and a gazebo.
