What I look forward to most in the Sunday NYT

It used to be the crossword. Then it was the Social Q’s column. But for the past couple years it’s been the Metropolitan Diary. Love those little stories.

The Metropolitan Diary is fun to read. And if you read the comments, you’ll find that they have something like the MMP. There’s a group of people who regularly post there.

Metropolitan Diary seems to have gone downhill, with more of the stories just “I saw someone famous” or “some New Yorker did something nice.” I don’t blame them, they can only run what they get.
Look forward to the puzzles (interesting set today) and SocialQs and something I’m not sure you get in NY. The back of the business section has three houses for sale at more or less the same price, in different parts of the country. Today it was upstate NY, Detroit and Atlanta. The difference in square footage is interesting, as is the real estate taxes.
I do miss the Travel section, though.

I usually smile at at least one of the Metropolitan Diary stories. (“Oh, your mandolin! I’ll bring it right over” was great.) I get the online Morning Update via email and MD is in the Monday version.

This week’s House Hunters was a cop-out. The best choice didn’t allow dogs, which was a requirement, so I didn’t pick it for them. But that’s the one they chose, after getting approval to keep their dog. It’s like a detective mystery where the murderer isn’t introduced until the last paragraph. Grrrr.

I only get the online version and the app. Do the games like Spelling Bee and Connections (tricky!) show up in the print edition?

These days what I look forward to most in the Sunday NYT is that I have cancelled my subscription and so will not spend any time gnashing my teeth at its centre-right take on everything.
