What *I'd* like to see from the new Star Trek series.

Like Angie Tribeca or Airplane. Have a laugh track. Do something different.
Singing. Dancing. Beat it to death with laughs.

I believe they already made that series. It was called Babylon 5.

And on that note, unless you’re going to go full Babylon 5 and have the story planned out in it’s entirety in advance, just don’t bother.

I like being able to just dip into TOS and TNG at random, knowing that at most I’m checking in before or after a mild bit of character development has taken place. Can we just have episodes week by week again?

I’ve been thinking it would be cool to see a sci-fi show based in a military organization that actually functioned somewhat like a military organization - with people routinely being promoted up the chain and out of the show. Wouldn’t really work as an ensemble, like you say, but you could start with a main character getting their first command, and roughly every season or so, getting promoted and taking over a new ship with a new crew. The lack of a “permanent” cast would give them more room for character deaths, too.

I usually think of it in the context of turning the Honor Harrington books into a TV show, but it could work as a new direction for Trek, too.

I was thinking of something like that- sort of “Law and Order”-esque kind of show, in that the captain might only be on the show for a couple of seasons, and same for the other crewmen. So in any given season, the churn wouldn’t be too bad- you wouldn’t want it to be a revolving door for purposes of character development, but you’d want them to move up and out.

The cool part would be the number of guest star spots you could have; in Season 3, they go to a Starbase, and run into Lt. So-and-So from Season 1, and have some kind of intrigue. Or in Season 5, they team up with a ship commanded by CMDR Whats-his-Face who was the XO in Seasons 2 and 3, and do something. Or even have crewmen come back- probably more common for enlisted, but could be done.

I think a series just based in the Earth’s solar system. This way they could have episodes not just on Earth but the moon, Mars, and the other planets of the solar system.

The real beauty of this is that our satellites have already taken some very good and accurate pictures of our solar system so the shots would be very realistic.
