I’m indulging myself in a fantasy here. What would happen to world politics if all the nations who now have nukes discovered that their nukes didn’t work, but believed absolutely that everyone else’s did? Would the “nuclear” nations continue to bristle and threaten? Or would there be a dramatic change in international relations and a genuine effort at peaceful coexistence? As I said, just a fantasy.
This is essentially the plot of a novel entitled “The Jesus Factor”, by Edwin Corley.
Don’t forget the Simpsons.
Guess you guys are right. This was a pretty lame thread idea. If some kindhearted mod would close it, I’ll go back to sexual fantasies (not on the SDMB, however). :smack:
How could they think their nukes didn’t work? If they’ve detonated any in the past (US, USSR, UK, Ch, Fr, In, Pk) then they know they work. If they used to work, but somehow by magic don’t work now, they’d be wondering what the hell happened to the basic laws of physics.
It’s a hypothetical and you should just assume that they know. Me, I think everything would be the same because i’s pretty much all bluffing anyway.
Methinks that at least the US. Russia, and China would start pushing more funding into space travel - after all, who needs nukes if you can just drop large rocks on your enemies?
