What if Pit threads didn't show up under "New Posts"?

New Posts is actually extremely useful on a general-knowledge board like this. I would guess that many people find threads in many different forums interesting. For example, these threads might all be interesting even though they’re spread across many different forums:

  • How do telescopes work?
  • Should I get an InstaPot?
  • The new Avengers movie is great!
  • The lines at the self checkout move too slowly
  • Does God exist
  • Who the F@#* said you could cut me off in traffic!

If you find most of the forums interesting, it’s very convenient to use New Posts instead of clicking on each sub-forum. But it also makes it that much easier to waste even more time on the SDMB.

Nowadays I use User CP to check the threads I’m subscribed to (most of which are threads I’ve posted in), then I use New Posts to browse.

Years ago, I never used New Posts, but instead browsed the SDMB a forum at a time. But that was when

  1. There were fewer forums to check,
  2. I don’t think I checked the SDMB as often, so there was more new stuff in each forum each time I checked, and
  3. The board was slow and creaky, and the Search feature that New Posts uses severely taxed its resources and was limited to one every 2 (?) minutes.

Joey P’s suggestion in this thread (see Posts 11 and 14) might be worth sticky-ing,

I think it is horrible that people are forced to participate in threads in The Pit.:frowning:

Same for me (except it’s seventeen years for me). Took me two minutes to find the darn link - I never look at that blue bar at the top unless I’m searching. I just always go in forum by forum. For me, I never go in to Elections or Thread Games, so those are the ones I guess I would exclude.
