What if: The FIGHT CLUB?

Many people ask me, and now I wonder? What if like in the FIGHT CLUB movie they make bombs to kill the credit card computers, and the bombs blew them up?

Would this make people like Tyler Durden wanted?

Don’t worry: the banks have excellent data backup procedures. Your debts are safe from angst-ridden terrorism, both foreign and domestic.

I know you dont have to worry about insaniacs destroying the world like that, but I want to know if they kill the deot would we be like Tyler?

We’re all like Tyler. Didn’t Freud call if the “Id”?

I’m not supposed to speak any such information to you nor would I even if I had said information you wanted at this juncture . . . be able.

I don’t mean be a pretend man like Tyler, but we would live on vines cause there was everything broken like in Mad Max? Could that become so?

Bro, the first rule. Live it.

No. I mean, I don’t think any silly credit card collapse could do that. Nor do I think you’re fairly representing the movie; there’s a part that discusses a collapsed civilization, and there’s a part where Tyler blows up some buildings. There’s no statement of cause between the two.

I don’t think anything short of a nuclear war could bring about the kind of civil collapse that you’re alluding to.

Why do many people ask you this?

The first rule of Project Mayhem is you do not ask questions, sir…

Or zombies.

Have at it. Why would you want to?

I dont want to. Making the world break could hurt many people. That would be bad.

But they said in the movie the debt would do that. I wanted to know if that could break us? Many people asked if that could eb for real and I didnt know the anwser.

Is debt the duct tape of the world?

And then appleciders said it couldn’t. So debt is not the duct tape of the world?

Oh my GOD IT’S MANNY PEOPLES.

Where are the people who were on the old SDMB back when it was on AOL?

THIS SAME GUY (or at least a guy who also called himself ZSPHOBIASZ) posted a number of inane questions to the old SDMB oh gosh, this was going on TWELVE YEARS AGO all starting with the phrase “manny people ask me and now I wonder…”. The repetition of the phrase and the ridiculous questions led to much mockery, and it became an inside board joke for years.

I am amused and surprised to see this resurface after all of this time. I am curious to know if this is the same guy, or a really long-term troll. Or both, I guess.

Of course not. There is no “duct tape” of the world. People do their thing day in and day out because of inertia. Again, you’d need some hugely cataclysmic event (like a zombie uprising or a global simeltaneous nuclear war like Judgment Day) to break that cycle for everyone.

Smaller disasters (like Hurricane Katrina or the Hait earthquake for example) can break the day-to-day cycle for a small group of people. But because they rest of the world still stands the idea of continuing on with a Mad Max-like existance is seen as silly.

Duct tape is the duct tape of the world.

Hi! I do not remember you. Are you OpalKat or DrainBead maybe?

I was not a troll, I was just confused before. I was angry because I thought it was Jews and Black people and other species of humans who were trying to make the world bad. I have learned better. All species of humans are the same. It is bad to think otherwise and what some bad people try to make people do. And it is hard to know what other people live like because you have an invisible backpack.

I was gone so long because I thought this was only on americonline, and then it left america online, and then I found it here in 2002 and signed up, but then I forgot about it, but then yesterday I saw a VHS tape of this at a yard sale and I remembered.

So i came back.

Wow. This is surreal.

Wanted in the sense that the FBI would be after him? Probably.

I keep my World Duct Tape in my invisible backpack.
