Again, it all comes down to me trying to imagine how Trump would get the mechanisms of federal government to operate should he try to pull this. Why should the Pentagon bring not-really-President Trump top secret briefings? Who is going to try to make them, and how? If he orders the NSA to do something, who’s going to make them pay attention to him and not whoever the line of succession says is President? When he orders the IRS to disband, are they going to just disband? Why would they have to?
I just don’t think this works unless Trump has the support of not only Congress and the courts, but federal law enforcement and the military. And at a certain point way before this, I’m not sure that Congress, and the money men who control them, will not just give up on the dude as more trouble to their agenda than he’s worth. Then Trump has nobody.
Two questions: on a scale of 1 to 10 (incremental answers permitted) where
**1 **= not a chance 5 = 50/50 chance 10 = an absolute certainty
What is the likelihood that this fence will be gone in “several more days”? [Today is Friday, June 5.]
**ThelmaLou **says 1- not a chance and laughs out loud at anyone who thinks it will be.
2) What is the likelihood that one of the covert reasons for the fence is to keep trump from being hauled away bodily by FBI, Secret Service, villagers bearing buckets of tar and pillowcases full of feathers, et al., when he loses the election in November?
**ThelmaLou **says says 7- a bit more than 50/50. Not the overt reason for building it, but if push comes to shove, it could be used that way. Especially if Donnie is hunkered down in the bunker with a supply of Big Macs and several cases of Diet Coke.
How would the fence help? It is not like Trump is the only one allowed inside the fence. He certainly cannot control entrance to the White House by himself, let alone patrol the fence line to make sure it is not breached.
Now villagers with buckets of tar and feathers are still likely to get thumped and cuffed. White House security would almost certainly take a dim view on vigilantes forcing access to President Biden’s home and office space.
Power is an incredibly fleeting thing, no more than a vapor or illusion. Take Kim Jong Un for instance - he’s technically the most powerful man in North Korea, but what does that “power” consist of really? Nothing, except people’s fear or obedience. If his surrounding bodyguards suddenly decided they were going to drag him out to the courtyard and execute him, and nobody else objected, he’d be instantly the most powerless man in the world - a corpulent 250-pound figure in ill health being dragged willy nilly out by much stronger arms and shoulders to his death.
I thought Trump wasn’t crazy about moving into the White House in the first place. Too much of a downgrade from Trump Tower. You’d think he’d be happy to leave.
That’s basically it. The military – who clearly have no love for Trump – pledges to obey the Constitution. The Constitution says his term ends on January 20, 2021 at noon. They have no reason to obey his commands after that any more than they do to obey mine.
Same for the Secret Service. They will be reduced to the small detail all ex-presidents are given. The rest would be set to protect President Biden.
Now, he could barricade himself in the White House and refuse to leave, but the government can still go on if President Biden is running it from his apartment in DC. Trump would be reduced to a crazy man tweeting nonsense.
