Two weeks ago, my son spilled about 3 ounces of this stuff in the bathroom. My apartment still reeks of orange. He spilled some on a pair of pants. These pants were rinsed then put in the hamper. The Citra-Solv melted the hamper onto the pants. According to the lable it contains: Natural citrus extracts and biodegradable cleaining agents.
It is probably d-limolene based. D-limoline comes from citrus fruits and can be a powerful cleaner/solvent. The distribution company I work for sells this in a 80-90% strength and in that form can detach and disintegrate a tile floor! However, when diluted, can clean nearly anything you can think of. Except rubber and certain plastics or synthetics. It will totally destroy rubber. One salesman (he worked for us before I started) used a diluted concentration to clean his car. Unfortunately, it got on the rubber weatherstripping in the doors. It rained late that night and the next morning, his car was flooded because the solution dissolved the rubber in the doors!
According the the MSDS, >90% of it is a chemical called D-Limonene. Which is the oil that you get when you squeeze orange rinds. Here’s a link from the Florida Chemical Company that has more detail: http://www.floridachemical.com/whatisd-limonene.htm
And I believe this may be why washing didn’t work too well: “As with most organic solvents, d-limonene is not water soluble.”
