Yeah, when i first heard about this i thought the guy was a major tool, a complete moron.
But, having viewed the video and seen the manner and the mood in which the comment was made, i’m more inclined to see it as an unfortunate choice of words that looks much worse when taken out of context. His follow-up, in which he showed genuine interest in the girl’s explanation of her name, shows that he was just kidding around.
I do think, though, that you have to be careful about callin a 6-year-old “stupid,” because sometimes they might take it literally. You also need to be careful, as a public official, about saying silly things in public. I’m sure he’s learned his lesson.
