What iPhone apps for travel within the US?

I’m planning a trip right now and as I was brainstorming what I needed to bring (hopefully I can do it without checked luggage,) I realized certain things (like a radio, alarm clock, etc.) could be replaced by iPhone apps (my iphone is a 3GS.)

So, my question is: what apps would you recommend?

Also, I am planning on getting some sort of GPS software, which one would you recommend? I’m planning on driving around the pittsburgh, washington dc, and cincinatti areas.

Expense tracker is good if you want to keep track of you spending.

“What’s On?” by Zap2It if you’re going go try to watch TV in hotels. Granted, the hotel’s TV feed might not be as easy to identify as “Comcast Cable - Pittsburgh” but I still like it.

Thanks all.

Waze is a free app which is much better than the pre-installed Google maps. **Tom Tom **is a paid app which will have all the maps downloaded to your phone so if you don’t get internet, you won’t get lost. Both of those do turn-by-turn instructions.
Trip Advisor uses the GPS to find nearby restaurants/hotels/attractions and let you know how people rate them which can help you find awesome places and steer clear of bedbug ridden hotels.

And finally, since you’re on a roadtrip in America, what better than seeing the weird, weird underbelly. Check out the app from Roadside America That way you can see wonderful places like aPassenger Pigeon Memorial Hut in Cincinnati or get to see Punxsutawney Phil in PA.

I don’t know if this is applicable to you, but The Catholic Directory is great for finding Mass times near you. I second Tom Tom for great directions. Weather Bug if you don’t already have it.
