Our five-year old is ready to learn to read (knows letters and sounds and reads small words when he’s in the mood). He spends too much time on the computer.
What are the best programs to learn to read? Either a website or shrink-wrapped software.
I wish I could remember exactly. My older son taught himself to read when he was four using a really simple Microsoft program. That was 11 years ago. My guess is that anything on the market now is A+. I’d buy the easiest one I could get my hands on and the cheapest if that’s an issue.
My kids liked The Reading Rabbit series, they have a math series as well. I think it might be by Scholastic. (Sorry, posting from my BB so I cannot link)
I came in to say Reader Rabbit, too. The thing that’s nice about it is that it tracks the user’s progress, and as s/he masters certain things, the program steps it up a level.
