Seems like it’s been sorted out, but the “extended period of destitution” caught my eye since in Swedish, the word for “bum” is lodis … Pretty close.
Home of Susie the Duck Days! And that guy who was on pukes of hazzard. The dark-haried one.
If Fogerty was trying to suggest a “small” town, then he HAD to be referring to Lodi, Ohio(population 3,000), not counting the sheep. NOT Lodi, California, population 58,000.
In a hick state, Lodi/OH is about as smalltown as they come.
Lodi, Texas, with approximately 164 souls, is even smaller than the one in Ohio. I grew up just down the road. It’s also close to Louisiana, which Fogerty seemed to like so much. Still, I feel sure he was referring to the one in California.
Got a cite for the population of Lodi in the late 60s? No way it was 58,000.
There’s two of them in New Jersey? Huh. That must get confusing.
here is the Kiss this Guy website of misheard lyrics. It will save future embarrassment.
Speaking of misheard lyrics, before I actually read the lyrics to this song, I was sure it was about a town in Minnesota. Why? Because I misheard the lyrics as:
“Oh, lord, I’m stuck in Illodi, MN.”
Of course, I never could find a town named Illodi, Minnesota, so at some point I looked up the actual lyrics to see where I went wrong.
To me, Lodi is a rarely-seen 60th level giant turtle.
