What is a Presidential Ballot? And how does it work?

I have a good friend who is in the military, she happens to be from Montana…However, she is stationed in the town next to me in CT…Yet she wants to vote tomorrow…She was told she would have to go to the town hall and get a presidential ballot. And attest that she is currently living in CT and that she is not registered in any other state.

Does anyone know what a presidential ballot is, and is it different than an absentee ballot?

My guess is that it’s a ballot for only the national election (i.e., the presidency) and none of the state positions (senator, congressman, state legislature, etc.).

Any chance she misheard, and it was actually “**provisional ** ballot” and not “presidential ballot”? Because provisional ballots are given to people who believe there has been a mistake in their registration, or for other conditional variations.

This would be a very distinct possibility. She is at the town clerks office as we speak…thanx all…

It is a “presidential ballot”. It’s a Connecticut thing. Here’s the part in the state law that covers it. As Dewey Finn guessed, it lets you vote only for President and VP without registering in any way.

The Courant / CTNow has an article on the subject, but you have to sign up to vew it.
