What is a supermodels normal diet

Hello, I have been digging around on google for a few minutes now, looking for some specific information. Ideally, I would like to find a site that interviews well known supermodels and discloses what their day to day diet and excecise routines are. Somthing close to this topic will suffice, but any links of this nature would be appreciated.

A supermodels normal diet is an oxymoron.

On festive occasions, she is allowed to have one piece of popcorn, providing she doesn’t have anything else that day.

And as long as she washes it down with Diet Evian, right Bosda?

Right.

I knew a professional model (albeit for Sears) who claimed (and I witnessed) about 1000 calories or so a day, on average. While modeling may not seem like hard work, there is a lot of motion and activity, and running around all day - it certainly is not a sedentary lifestyle.

An example of her diet was:

Breakfast: 12-16-oz glass of V8 juice, alternately maybe an orange or fresh fruit dish (unsweetened). About 200 calories total.

Lunch: A breakfast bar or two, sometimes a caesar salad (sans dressing). Alternately, a “pig out dish” of carrot and celery strips and fat-free ranch dressing as dip, with radishes, pickles, and cucumbers. She actually would eat about 300 or so calories.

Dinner: Typically a light, normal meal, low or very on carbohydrates. No pasta, bread, or rice. But more substantial - maybe 500-600 calories. A favorite of hers was about a 4-oz after-cooking fillet steak (about 300 calories) and steamed veggies.

All things considered, she seemed healthy. She was about 5’6" and 115 pounds. Now, supposedly for 115 pounds you would need 1150 calories per day to maintain that weight just due to metabolic function, and her activities should have added another 600 or so calories per day. So either her metabbolism was odd, or perhaps she was sneaking food.

Supermodels can eat anything they want, provided they remember to throw it up afterwards…

What, did one follow you home or something?

The way I hear it, some of them survive on sperm.

That’s why their cheeks often look sunken. :stuck_out_tongue:

What a silly thread.

Most supermodels’ diets will consist of such exotic foods as hamburgers, chicken, potatoes, Frosted Flakes, diet sodas, broccoli, Rice-a-Roni, and popcorn. In other words, the same crap we all eat.

You will find most skinny girls in the entertainment industry are exactly that - young girls who happen to be skinny by nature. Some people are just skinny, especially when they’re young. It’s not a particularly rare thing.

RickJay makes a good point. On the other hand, many of them do do large quantities of cocaine and smoke cigarettes.

Are any of them strict adherents of the Atkin’s diet?

I’ve heard they aren’t really active either. They just sit around the house reading message boards all day.

PaulYeah

No more than one french fry per day.

Not necessarily. It is quite common for a skinny girl to apply for a modeling contract, and be told that she needs to lose 20 pounds or so before she can be considered. High fashion modeling requires extreme thinness in most cases.

Naturally, the girl in question will try to lose the 20 pounds, even though it would make her quite underweight by most standards. If a person is already skinny, it is pretty hard to lose a lot of weight without resorting to extreme calorie restriction or drugs or bulimia.

Sure, some young women are naturally skinny enough for high-fashion models, but I suspect that a lot of them do not eat what we consider a “normal” diet.

They seem to survive mostly on publicity, pampering and attitude.

OK, come on now - 14 responses to a legitimate GQ, and only about 3 of them are serious? Seriously guys, I like a little joke interspersed in a GQ thread as well as the next gal, but can we increase the signal to noise ratio here a little? Can anyone else try to help the OP?

My wife’s cousin worked one day as a hair model, had an interview with a modelling agent, and was told in no uncertain terms to come back when she’d lost 25 pounds.

On the lighter side, I read an article where a non-fashion writer went to Paris for a fashion show (Sports Illustrated, maybe?). His take? The models “had given up eating for smoking.”

I’ve read nasty stories of things like cotton balls soaked in orange juice to simulate the feeling of being full without actually taking in calories. I’m with Green Bean - everything I’ve read/heard/seen indicates that the ‘naturally skinny’ girls are in the minority - not many people are naturally as thin as models are required to be.

Belieeeve me, even the naturally skinny girls have to lose ten or twenty pounds before any big shoot or show. I have seen show coordinators set up scales at clothes fittings. It’s not pretty.
If you’re interested in the lives of those involved in the modelling industry, a scandalous documentary (or simple news piece, I forget) was made in Britain a few years back.
I’m not sure what a supermodel’s diet consists of. I do know that Calista Flockhart, while not a model, occasionally goes off the deep end and satisfies her raging weet tooth with a whole cookie.

This simply cannot be true. If someone did this regularly, the cotton would accumulate in their stomach undigested. This would form a bezoar, which would have to be removed surgically because it would completely obstruct the bowels.

As to the OP, I have no doubt that there a small minority of women who eat very typical diets but remain skinny enough to be a supermodel due to an unusually high metabolism. Others may have to adhere to a strict diet, and still others may have an eating disorder. To suggest that all of these women have eating disorders sounds like jealousy to me.
