What is a "Version Girl"?

From the UB40 song, Labour of Love album. I assume it’s a remake, that’s what the labor of love is. Anyway, what’s a version girl?

The only definition that even makes some sense as a modifier of girl is the one about turning a fetus. Maybe she’s an ob-gyn?

Maybe if we can answer this we can go on to what all that rapping is saying.

Well, here are the lyrics, for whatever they’re worth.

Couldn’t find a definition, but I found some blog entries trying to identify identify the “younger version girl”. Apparently, she was holding a banana leaf.

That and a few other non-porn sites I found when I googled seem to suggest a version girl is one in videos. Maybe site-dressing that jiggles?

You’re right about it being a remake. The original was by Nicky Thomas. lyrics

A search on Version Girl pretty much produces the lyrics and nothing more.

Version City, on the other hand…

There is a ska song by The Clash called “Version City
There is a record studio, recording reggae and ska called “Version City
There’s a record company, producing reggae and ska called “Version City
I think they operate a night club in NYC by the same name.

Then there’s “versioning” which is:

So maybe she’s a girl from Version City. To tell the truth, I can’t tell if it’s a real place or even a nickname for a real place (like Trenchtown). Or maybe she’s a recycled popular rhythm… (WTF?!)

But if you want to know what I always heard

I had always heard that Nicky was really saying “Virgin Girl”. White America didn’t want to hear big black Jamacians singing about virgins, so Nicky told folk that he was saying “Version Girl”.

I’ll keep looking.
