What is going on with Google reviews of the film "Leave The World Behind"?

I did a Google search on the subject movie, and at the top of the page is the Google info on it, followed by site hits. The Google section includes reviews. The proportion of 1-star reviews is way out of proportion to what you would normally expect. There are about 10K reviews and 3/4 of them are 1 star. So I started reading the reviews, and all of the 1-star reviews that I got through are the exact same review. There must be thousands of them. I am guessing they are bot accounts.

Why would anyone do this?

(BTW I thought the movie was disappointing and a total waste of some excellent actors.)

From IMDB;

Does that answer your question?

This Reddit thread, asking the exact same question, suggests that it’s being spammed with those reviews because Barack and Michelle Obama were executive producers of the film. Thus, the spamming reviews are likely coming from people who don’t like the Obamas.

A similar pattern emerges on Rotten Tomatoes: the critics’ score is 76% positive, but the audience score is only 34%.

Behold the power of organized hate.

Any algorithm that recommends movies based on star ratings will prioritize this one pretty far down.

Those bots didn’t write or motivate themselves. Humans are why we can’t have nice things.

Meh, I wasn’t disappointed but I went in without any preconceived notions. Maybe the book was better, I don’t know.

Also, this thread from here on the SDMB is relevant:
Leave the world behind” (produced by the Obamas) is freaking out the CT’ers

The ideological and cultural divisions in this country which is a central theme of the movie is causing a lot of shit to be stirred up in the real world. Life imitates art imitating life.

Yeah but I don’t think anyone has the resources to drop nuclear bombs on Manhattan.

Yet.
