When I was a child, my conception of Heaven was based on something my parents told me. They said we went to church every week to be with God, and that we went to Heaven to be with God, hence, Heaven was like Church, except you never leave.

My thought of heaven is this…
You do what makes you happy, and the great thing is, it never ceases to make you happy. You never get bored of anything and that’s what makes heaven the place that it is.
But i don’t think any of us can realy contemplate heaven, since we are loley mortals, and contemplating eternity is probably impossible. We’ll see how it goes when we die.
How’s this one for a metaphore:
Hell is a place where everyone sits around a pile of delicious food with six-foot spoons tied to their arms. They can see and smell the food, but they can’t taste it because they can’t put the spoons in their mouth.
Heaven is a place where everyone sits around the same table with the same spoons tied to their arms. The difference is they are enjoying the delicious meal. Why? they’re feeding each other!
Basically, the difference between heaven and hell is a positive attitude.
seriously, though, the concept of heaven, or eternal life for that matter does not seem logical. I mean limits come in pairs. (see cecils colum What is the opposite of absolute zero?) If a soul is born/created its existence must end at some point, right?
I know this is a discussion on the nature of heaven where logic should have no place. Humor me.
One of my Theology professors in Catholic college – a Doctor of Sacred Theology, no less – told me, off the record, that his vision of heaven is that of a perpetual orgasm because you are always in the true and full presence of God.
Now, there’s a goal!!!
Over the years, I have managed to purge most of the Catholic claptrap out of my soul, but, for obvious reasons, this image has stayed with me.
