Put one peoples in my yard messing with my animal, peoples needs to show a real good reason for what they are doing and show me PDQ too. They are in second place from the get go.

And absolutely nothing is better than what comes “off Dad’s plate.”
I think people see pets as children or babies, but even more sacred and innocent(using non-literal language).
So basically imagine you said no I am not going to waste 30K having brain surgery performed on my child, I’ll just have them euthanized and get another! And now double that since it is a pet.
And I agree with the OP, people see animals as super innocent, super vulnerable children…
I avoid pet forums. Far too many people do not have cats. dogs, hamsters, and guinea pigs; rather, they have “furbabies.”
I own four cats. I once owned seven at once, and have owned 15 in my lifetime. Ultimately, my cats are just-plain-cats; their lifespan reaches from X to Y. I’d like it to reach closer to Y than X, but it doesn’t always. I am saddened when one of my feline friends passes away. More than once, I have attended while the veterinarian does the kind thing and sends my friend into eternity.
No matter how much I love my cats (and I do love them all), I know that they are animals, like me; and they get old, wear out, and will die; like I will. They are not “furbabies”; they are simply cats. I deal with them as needs be dealt, though it is never easy.
Though many Dopers may think it silly, I do believe in the Rainbow Bridge. I will reunite with my pet friends who have passed before. It will be a nice reunion, after which we will all cross the bridge together.
