The reason I ask is that yesterday there was a news story about a British couple who bought airline tickets on the internet for Sydney. They thought the tickets were for the Australian city but ended up in Canadian one instead. They only got suspicious when they had to leave their Trans-Atlantic flight and transfer to a small , 18 seater , plane. They admit it was their mistake and are determined to make the best of their stay in this small sea-port. Anyone know what it is like in this Sydney and is it worth a visit ?. It looks as though those Americans that say " Paris , France " and " London , England " might be right . At least they should not end up in the wrong town !
This thread is better suited for IMHO. I’ll move it for you.

We have property there, and, although I have never been, my DH has been 3 times and is going again next month. There isn’t alot to do, the shopping malls as Americans know them are non-existent. The sidewalks are rolled up at sundown, the people are really, really nice, and most of the townspeople were bitching about the Germans buying up the beachfronts and denying acess. There is alot of Scottish culture, obviously. Summers are mild, it snows in winter, rains alot all year.
Overall, an extreme difference between the two Sydneys.
And there are tar ponds.
I am from Nova Scotia and lived in Sydney for two years. I found it to be quite depressing but the rest of Cape Breton is worthwhile seeing. Unfortunately Sydney has been suffering serious economic problems since the downturn in the steel industry, and was left quite polluted from these industries. So it would not be my first choice for a vacation.
It’s a great place to be if you want to catch a ferry to Newfoundland.

What on earth does this mean?
There was a chinese woman in England recently who was directed from Heathrow to Torquay (said tor-kee, an english holiday resort (setting for Fawlty Towers).
She was trying to get a flight to Turkey.

It’s a nice way of saying that there isn’t much of a nightlife going on.
