Christ! I haven’t even heard of that one, xploder. Just off the top of my head I would offer that perhaps in order to shorten such a cumbersome name they blend the sounds together. But never having heard of the place, I don’t know anything about how its name is used in speech. E.g. is it consistently said this way or only informally as a nickname; does everyone say it like this or only the locals, etc.?
There are some Britons reading the thread, perhaps one of them will know.
