I was looking through the classified ads and found a job that requires PDX experience. What is that? I’m thinking it’s operating a phone system or computer system?
Well, PDX is the code for the airport in Portland, OR. Maybe it’s a misprint. PBX has to do with phone systems.
Dunno about PDX, but a PBX is a private branch exchange – a phone system within an organisation that basically takes away the need to have multiple direct lines. The PBX system routes incoming calls to the right destination and allows outgoing calls to share a certain number of external lines. A PBX system is owned by the organisation, not the phone company. If they want PBX experience, it probably means either installing and maintaining the network equipment, or (for an office job) operating the PBX switchboard console.
