What is Reality?

OK.

Philosophy of Nature

Mmmmm. Can someone give me a lead on this, so that I can babble?

Quantum Physics

All I know from my life experience is that the best way to learn anything is to try to teach it.

As for Quantum Mechanics, the best way to know about it is to go beyond it. Remember, Einstein was after a theory that not only explained Newton, but went well beyond Newton’s perception.

The lesson is that we may have to bypass QM and come up with the next “unifying theory” which encompasses QM as a mere subset.

Who said there is no such thing as reality, only perception?

"Who said there is no such thing as reality, only perception?"

I said that. But I was reading from a book. It was a stupid book.

Its been some time since I’ve studied sub-atomic physics so I don’t know all of the new developments over the past few years. But last I checked, quantum theory was neither proven, nor was it the only model available. Off the top of my head, I’m thinking of Capra’s “Turning point.” S-matrix theory for instance is an equally valid model. The problem with quantum physics IIRC is that when a situation cannot be explained, a new quark is proposed to make it work. This has been the downside of modern corporate science. For instance, a pharmaceutical company doesn’t look for a drug to target an illness. Rather they develop a drug and test it in a variety of ways and market it for what it seems best at doing. At least from a marketing standpoint. And this is the approach science takes anymore, more often than not. Deductive reason has gone out the window. We may find a few years down the road that we were clinging to a paradigm as skewed as the Earth being the center of the universe.

Oh, and if this interests you but you have a short attention span, try your local blockbuster for, “Mindwalk.”
