It’s old, shaped similar to the prow of a ship, and has a couple statues at the very top of the prow. It’s also very ornate.
The Flat Iron Building?
I suspect you nailed it in one.
That’s it! Thanks.
I remember standing (in the street) in front of it and looking up. What a wierd feeling. The shape throws one’s of perspective all out of whack. I loved it, but then I loved all of Manhattan when I was there in '64/'65 while stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
BTW; is the World’s Fair Globe still there, I wonder? That’s where I enjoyed my first Belgain Waffle.
I’ll tell ya, this Bakersfield Boy was in hog heaven in the Big City.
It’s still there, but we call it the Big Ball of Rust now.
Well, the globe itself is not rusting, and the fountains are still maintained and working. Maybe you’re thinking of Carlos Delgado at first base over at nearby Shea Stadium.
And boy, you won’t be getting any Belgian Waffles in the park that’s replaced the World’s Fair. Hot dog carts, sure. Ice cream stands too. And if you leave the park, there lots of interesting Latin and Asian foods. But Belgian Waffles? I don’t think so. Find a Haagen-Dazs or something maybe?
The Unisphere (its name) may be okay, but the old NY State Pavilion near it is in terrible shape, according to the Times.
My first Boy Scout camping trip was a Camporee on the grounds of the Worlds Fair right after it closed. Not the biggest wilderness I’ve ever camped in, and getting the tent pegs in was a bear.
Were bears still living in Queens at the time, or was he left over from one of the exhibits?
Anyhow, it was nice of him to help you with the tent pegs. I hope you gave him a pic-a-nic basket.
Isn’t that building the Daily Bugle’s headquarters in the Spider-Man movies?
Ever noticed that Boy Scouts talk funny, as in “Camporee”?
Well, those waffles were good, slightly warm and with strawberries (jam IIRC) and either ice cream or whipped cream. I just remember sweet, warm, and cold. Very good.
You guys ruined it. I always thought that was an apartment building and imagined how cool it would be to have an apartment with a window on the point of the building. Turns out it’s an office building which is being taken over by a company named Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck. That’s just not quite as romantic.
Yes it is.
If you have enough money, ole Georg will likely grant your dream.
Too hard for me to do it, so we needed bears. But Colbert quit the troop right after. And Boo Boo didn’t help a bit.
