what is that script "L" on glasses?

How come some drinking glasses have the script-looking “L” on the bottom and what does it signify?

I’d guess the “L” stands for Libbey Glass.

And the consensus was that it was Libby Glass, as previously mentioned.

(It was a little over two years ago, so the search engine did not pick it up, but it was under the witty heading “What the ‘L’ is going on here?”
