i think i have enjoyed reading a clockwork orange more than any other.
For pure entertainment, try Pest Control by Bill Fitzhugh. Very few books make me laugh out loud, but that one is hilarity in ground-up-tree form.
I think that David Brin, Issac Asimov, & Arthur C. Clarke’s sci-fi is some of the best out there.
There is one book, however, that I read over and over. If you like cyberpunk-type stuff, try “NOMAD – Deathrace” by David Alexander. Very enjoyable read, and I say to myself every time I read it, “This would make a great movie.” It’s mildly similar to Terminator, though, but the plot and all is original.
Into Alternate History? I’m continually amazed by the amount to historical and period detail the Harry Turtledove puts in his books. I recommend ‘The Guns of the South’ and ‘The Two Georges’ most of all.

Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis
I know lit-heads think it’s a bit “fluffy” but I have never related to a character more than Jim Dixon.
The Godfather. All of Mario Puzo’s novels rock the casbah, but this one is especially good. Mobsters, political intrigue, sex. I’ve read it several times.
