What is the best song that begins with the letter I? See rules in OP

This one is hard! I came up with 20 candidates without even doing any searching. But, if I’m limited to 5:

I’d rather go blind - Etta James (thought Beth Hart also does a killer version)

I’ve been loving you too long - Otis Redding (Still the best, though I am also partial to Anita Carter’s cover)

If I could only fly - Blaze Foley (Merle’s version is more polished, but no has ever topped the original)

In dreams - Sierra Ferrell (Yay! 21st century)

I’ll see you in my dreams - Django Reinhardt (I’ve seen pure instrumentals in the nominations before, so I think this is OK. Besides, no one’s ever played it better)

I’ve Seen All Good People / Yes
In The Shape Of A Heart / Jackson Browne
I Don’t Need No Doctor / Humble Pie
In Thee / Blue Oyster Cult
I Will / Beatles

Also:

I Want You - Bob Dylan
I Want You - Elvis Costello

All three are great songs.

My other contributions:

If You Don’t Know Me By Now - Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes

In 3’s - Beastie Boys (yeah, I know, obscure instrumental, but it’s funky as hell)

I Shot The Sheriff - Bob Marley and the Wailers

There are so many I forgot. “I am the Walrus” isn’t even my favorite Beatles “I” song from 1967.

Is it “I’m Fixing A Hole”?

Actually, I just realized I can’t spell. This thread started too early in the morning for me.

It Was a Good Day – Ice Cube
I Wanna Be Sedated – Ramones
In the Ghetto – Elvis Presley
Interstate Love Song – Stone Temple Pilots
Ironic – Alanis Morisette

3 - In the Heat of the Night - Ray Charles

I Knew You Were Trouble - Taylor Swift
I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins
I Second That Emotion - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
I Can’t Explain - The Who

Bit of an aside this, but I get really annoyed at Whitney Houston’s version. I Will Always Love You is a tiny, intimate, reflective little piece of perfection. It absolutely did not need Whitney to take a forty yard run-up and then bawl her lungs out. Sheesh!

Sorry 'bout that. Carry on.

Agree one hundred percent, well said!

I’m Your Captain - Grand Funk Railroad
In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion - Agalloch
Is This Where You Live? - The Church
If There Is Something - Roxy Music
I Will Follow - U2
Island - The Moody Blues

So, what do we do with 2-part songs? Does Closer to Home get a separate nomination when the C’s come up?

Three great ones!

Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive

Sonic Youth - I Dream I Dreamed

The Monks - I Hate You

The Black Angels - Indigo Meadow

(Hey, one from the last 20 years  )

Clown Core - Infinite Realm of Incomprehensible Suffering

And it’s not one of my picks unless I’m given an indulgence, but I do love The Meat Puppets - I’m a Mindless Idiot

It Wasn’t Me- Shaggy

I had too Much to Dream Last Night- The Electric Prunes (what a name!)

“I Want To Whip Your Cow” by The Stiffs is the obvious winner.

I Could Eat Your Words - Patricia barber

I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues - Elton John

I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide - ZZ Top

If You could read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot

I guess I’ll have to take these on a case-by-case basis.

In this instance I see plenty of examples of “Closer to Home” being listed as its own track, so go ahead and nominate it under the Cs if you’d like.

mmm

I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles

I’ll have to think of some more; other people beat me to all the other songs I could think of. That’s the curse of living in the Pacific time zone.

I’m pretty sure it’s just “Fixing a Hole”. I almost nominated it in the F thread.

Yes, of course you’re right.
