Probably Superbock, it’s a portuguese beer. And yeah, I haven’t seen a Cruzcampo in years.
I actually had a SuperBock on Sunday night, at a Portuguese restaurant here in Amsterdam.
manwithaplan, doesn’t Smithwicks make a stout as well? I recall having one in London a few years ago. Not too impressive.
Thailand - Singha Beer
Had one on the weekend!
I’m not sure. They don’t make one for the Irish market but they have tried a few different things for export (one of which, Kilkenny - a creamy ale which had to be left to settle like a stout, was subsequently introduced in Ireland). Apart from microbreweries etc., the only real competitors to Guinness on the Irish market are Beamish and Murphys, both of which are made in Cork. Murphys was taken over by Heineken years ago and is very popular in Cork - it’s a bit lighter and sweeter than Guinness. Beamish’s main weapon in the war against Guinness is that it’s a fair bit cheaper.
I should also add that Smithwicks is part of the Guinness group, now Diageo.
In Finland, it is Lapin Kulta which is most like Bud, for two reasons:
- it is the top seller
- it can be considered to taste like watered down camel urine
Now don’t get me wrong, it goes down just fine on a hot summer day in some downtown watering hole (and it is cheap, too!) However, a few years ago, when in work trip in Netherlands, a co-worker introduced me to the wonders of tasty dark beers - no more “Lappari” for me ever since.
(Currently in favor: Czechian beers, esp Velkopopovicky because it is available from tab on several pubs around here)
