What is the earliest example of a "cliff flyover" in a movie?

In the discussion of the teaser for Pixar’s next movie, Brave, people mention the “cliff flyover” effect you see in the trailer here (youtube).

What is the first movie you remember seeing this in?
The first time I was awed by that effect was in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980); see at youtube. Trust me, on the big screen, you felt like you were flying. Had it been done as impressively before?

Evel Knievel (1971), starring George Hamilton. Available online here:

Dear God, why do I remember stuff like this?

My earliest memory of the effect was in one of the few Cinerama features I saw in the early 60’s. Can’t remember the title, but it was mostly a collection of things that had the Gee-Whiz effect of making you feel part of things like plane rides, roller coasters, stuff like that.

It might have been as prosaic a title as “This is Cinerama.”

ETA: this may be it. ASorry about the dates! This Is Cinerama - Wikipedia

Because it was awesome. Best second of the movie. It’s at the end, with a voiceover saying soemthing about how we struggle to have control over our lives (shot of front wheel of bike from rider’s POV)… or the manner of our deaths (CLIFF!).
