What is the efficiency of a Hyperloop?

I suppose the feasibility of Hyperloops is open to debate. Let’s say it works as promised, even if the final designs aren’t submitted.

How much energy does it take to ship cargo? Let’s say there is a dedicated Hyperloop from Los Angeles to New York. How many watt hours of energy are spent sending one kilogram along that route? Given that the Hyperloop is capable of respectable capacity.

How many watt hours per kilogram?

I don’t believe anyone could calculate that with any accuracy at this stage. It depends on the total energy usage of the vacuum pumps, the linear accelerators and the compressor on each car.

As none of those things have been built in even scale models and tested, you’d just be doing WAG. The PDF paper has a table claiming the hyperloop has lower energy usage than any other form of transport but there’s no justification for it or explaining how he arrived at that figure.
