OK, but just to be clear, your post that I quoted from did not contain the word “exclusive”. I can see that you did use that term earlier, though, in another post. Not everyone reads every post, which is why I wanted to clarify.
Thanks for the reply Voluble. Again, I was just curious about what you knew/thought about certain things. That’s all.
Your reply to my Question 1 is nice. But again note as to the pie/shoe thing, I wasn’t saying ordering pie was wrong and that shoe was better. If you understand why having almost all bees in a hive be workers that can’t reproduce has worked out quite well for bees for millions of years, then a minor impediment to reproduction like homosexuality is hardly worth noting. So if your puzzlement about social insects gets cleared up, then that’ll be a good step forward for you.
I guess you and I just see things completely different on my Question 2. I don’t see homosexuals (now) as being in a special group with regard to wanting or feeling pressured to have kids. Wanting kids and orientation seem two unrelated things to me. I see the point about going a really long time back that pre-human homosexuals might be seen differently from an evolutionary point of view, but when talking about “feeling pressured” and all that, I was assuming a much more recent era in human history was in consideration. In addition, well, my 2nd question was “present tense” and not “past tense”. See?
So I see things like Melissa Etheridge’s (former?) partner Julie Cypher having two kids. (Lot’s of examples like that, just not very many of them get openly confirmed. E.g, does the expected child of Tom Cruise come under this heading or not?) I don’t think they felt social pressure or anything.
As to the SMDB and posting. It could be worse, you could be me where my posts get misunderstood all the time. Note in particular this thread, where even you adduce motives behind my questions that aren’t there at all.
It’s like the following exchange at dinner:
“What’s type of sauce is this?”
“What’s wrong with the sauce?”
“Nothing, it’s quite good. That’s why I’m asking what it is.”
“Well, if that’s how you feel, I’m not going to cook anymore.”
“But could you at least tell me what kind of sauce this is so I can make it myself?”
Sometimes a person just wants to know what kind of sauce it is.
Colibri asked me some questions. Keeping in full spirit with Colibri’s attitude towards the who/how of answering such directed questions, I took some time to get Elvis’s body and re-animate it so The King himself can reply.
Colibri question “1) Do you find the fact that someone would ask such a question unusual? Do you think the question is based on some kind of fundamental misunderstanding of biology?”
The re-animated body of Elvis says:
Colibri question “2) If so, why?”
The re-animated body of Elvis says:
PV = nRT
Except that this is most likely incorrect. As has already been pointed out, the explanation for sterile castes in insects (and other eusocial organisms) is almost certainly different than that for homosexuality. The most common explanation for sterile castes is either kin selection or group selection (coloniality). Although similar explanations have sometimes been invoked in the past to explain homosexuality, they are not the most parsimonious ones, and at least in my view, are unlikely to be correct.
I’m still not sure how this relates to the question:
But I guess at this point I’m not going to find out.
I’m very sorry, but we’ve decided to hire someone else for the managerial position you applied for.
