What is the greatest compliment you have ever received?

I have been told twice in the last month that my partner and I “treat each other so well”. Nice to know that our efforts to be healthy in relationship are visible to others!

Just got married two weeks ago, after 6.5 years with a person who had severe reservations about marriage. (I could go either way on marriage myself, but when asked by this guy, am I gonna say “no”?) In his vows, he told me that I had changed his mind about being able to make a lifetime committment.

It’s so great getting to read all of these.

I’ve been called intelligent so many times I can’t count them, but I still get puffed up with pride whenever I hear it. Once, a classmate of mine said “If all sophomores were as intelligent as you, they’d be gods by the time they graduated.” Also, in my high school days, I was on a small quiz bowl team just competing within the school. I was late because of bad directions, and when I was found by a teammate, he clapped his arm around me and said “You are my savior!” When my team walked up to the stage to compete, the guys in the crowd (all kids from my school) cheered my last name in unison. They did the same cheer when my team walked off the stage defeated. Completely unexpected, very sincere. That makes me proud just thinking about it. Also, I’ve been complimented many times on my writing skills, the most sincere of which comes weekly from the local paper, when they publish my column in a special section of the paper. The monthly check from them is also praise. I don’t really have anything to compete with the mushy, from-the-heart compliments some posters have gotten, but the compliments I have recieved are enough to brighten any of my bad days.

A friend introduced me as “The most non-judgemental person I know”. Having grown up with a parent who could never get beyond life-long biases and prejudices, I felt that I had reached my goal of rising above at least that part of my childhood environment.

What a great thread! Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories.
