What is the name for this term?

What is the term for when kid’s programing contains jokes that only adults will get?

(Adult as not minor. NOT adult as in X rated).

The only term I can think of is “fanservice”, but that is a DISTANT relative term.

precocious child

kid whoosing?

‘Fanservice’ is most definitely not the term!

Double entendre covers it - it doesn’t only refer to smutty meanings - but I expect there’s an even better term.

The only “term” I have heard for this is that the jokes are “over the head” of the target audience.

I would say it has two levels of humor/meaning.

I just plugged some words into Google, and when Pixar does it (and they do it a lot) it’s called “adult humor” or “inside jokes”

From Cars, an example of the first is the character “Jay Limo” voiced by big-chiinned TV talkshow host Jay Leno. Kids might not have a clue who he is, but their parents certainly do. An example of the second is the bumpersticker that you see for just a fleeting moment that says “Save 2D Animation” or the little lightning bugs that on closer look are VW Beetles.

Heh. Well if you have to justify “Double Entendre” I don’t see how ‘fanservice’ with the stipulation given is any different.

I think I’d have used “adult oriented” (aka Rocky and Bullwinkle Syndrome).

Or “What, did I forget to wipe my mud flaps?” [/hijack]

The three most kid-whooshing productions in history:

All Dogs Go To Heaven

Camp Nowhere

Nickelodeon’s Doug

The level of stuff in these movies that there is no chance in hell of the target audience - kids - understanding is absolutely astounding.

From the line “I’ve been jilted by a skirt” in All Dogs Go To Heaven to a reference to a mail-order scam called Ponzi Publishing Co. in Doug to veiled allusions to LSD and pill-popping in Camp Nowhere - these three have to take the cake.
