A few days ago I heard a cover of a Tom Waits song on the radio. I don’t remember any of the exact lyrics, so Google isn’t much help.
All I can really say is that the song consisted primarily (exclusively?) of a bunch of advertising slogans (“no money down,” things like that).
Anyone have a title I can put to this one?
“Step Right Up,” off the album Small Change. Awesome song.
That’s the one. Thanks for the info!
Oh god, my favorite Tom Waits song of all time.
Song is decades old and I still quote out of it all the time. I mean, hell, it turns a sandwich into a banquet!
You got it buddy,
The large print giveth,
and the small print taketh away!
I just introduced this song to my husband over xmas weekend!
Christ, you don’t know the meaning of heartbreak, buddy!
One of my favorites ever. Call me a heretic, but I like the bluesy boozehound/jazzy beatnik Tom Waits of the '70s and '80s far better than the junkyard hobo madman of the last fifteen years or so.
Count me into that heretic group as well
Me, too…
By the way, You will really love orphans , his latest. Recently we suffered through 5 days of no power, but we did have a battery powered radio/CD player full of fresh batteries, and we listened to all three discs while playing Triominos by candlelight. It’s really great!
