Ditto all but the age. I reckon mine’s about 28 or so.
Does underwear count? Oh, you said bought “new.” Nevermind
I have a small gold medallion with the Virgin Mary on it, which was a christening gift from my grandfather. That would make it nearly 30 years old at this point.
As far as gifts that I actually remember receiving, there’s a wooden doll dressed in traditional Acadian costume that I received as a gift from my aunt when we visited family in New Brunswick. I was 7 years old when we went on that trip, so that means it’s ~23 years old now.
A rag doll I got before my first birthday. She has red yarn hair, a red checked dress, her eyes have been replaced twice, the “shoelaces” that are embroidered on her feet are almost worn off, and she has two patches (one that has a brown rectangular stain over it because I insisted it needed a band aid…for about 7 years). She’s about 25 years old. Her name is Susie. She lives in my closet.
There’s something I received new that is older than I am. When my mother was pregnant with me, my oldest aunt made a beautiful blanket for me, with a bunny on it. After I was born, she added my name. I’m almost 63, and I still have it.
I have a little pink plush lamb that my aunt gave to me the day I was born. “Lamby” lives in my closet these days. I’m 23.
I was given an inscribed silver cup and bud vase when I was born - I still have them both and the newspaper cutting of their presentation. 43 and some years old.
I have a pair of basic jeans (Levi’s, I think) in the attic; a bit worn, but perfectly wearable. I was planning on giving them to a young relative as a going-away-to-college-gift, but that didn’t work out … I can’t throw them out.
I lost a trunk full of prized possessions in my early 20s; probably the oldest thing I have is the set of encyclopedia I bought for my very first private apartment.
I also have the doctor’s bill for my delivery; I just found it in my late mother’s papers. Does that count?
I still have a baseball bat that I can’t remember not owning. If I got it when I was 10, that would make it 61 years old. My social security card is about 55 years old. I have a pair of cufflinks that an old girlfriend gave me 52 years ago. And I have had my wedding ring and a number of wedding presents (including sterling silver table settings) all over 44 years old.
I have a number of photos of myself when I was an infant, so they’d be more than 52 years old, but they weren’t in my exclusive possession for all that time, so I suspect they may not meet the OP’s criteria.
Otherwise, the first thing that comes to mind is a copy of Milbourne Christopher’s 1969 biography of Houdini that the author autographed for me. I assume I received it in the year it was published, which would make it 39 years old.
But I have a suspicion there’s something older that I just can’t remember at the moment.
I’m sure I have a lot of kids stuff packed away at my parents house, but the oldest thing I have that I still use all the time is a Swiss Army Knife- Explorer Model. I bought it when I was around 7, 44 bucks. My dad said he would pay half, but it was still quite a bit of money for a kid.
I’m 28 now, so it’s at least 20 years old, and I’ve used it for 3/4 of my life.
I don’t think I have anything left from my childhood. The oldest one still with me would be the Swiss Army knife I bought with my own money back in '88.
I still have my baby shoes. (Hey, you didn’t have to bronze them afterall.) But I’m more sentimental about a little toy flat iron that I can remember choosing from a box of various sizes of flat irons in Mexico. I was two and a half years old. So that would have been in January of 1946 – almost 63 years ago.
I, too, almost have something I got before I was born – a Christmas stocking someone in my family makes (who makes them for everyone born in the family,) but alas, it was ragged and replaced only a couple years ago.
Now, the oldest new thing I have is the red-cover D+D basic edition from the very early 80s.
You may be interested in The Doll Hospital which is nationally known for their excellent job in restoring dolls and other loveys. ( I spent ALOT of my childhood wandering around this store. I loves it.)
My oldest is my stuffed musical blue teddy bear named Blue Boy. He is 41ish or a year younger. Not sure when I got him, he’s just always been there.
On the day I was born, my Dad bought me a teddy bear. He’s nearly fifty years old now (the bear, not Dad), and pretty beat up, but I still have him.
A photo of me & my siblings at my 1st B-day/Xmas. It is 52 years old now.
I have a number of things like this. The baby blanket in which I was wrapped in the hospital, a Pinocchio-shaped bank that had been set-up at my mom’s job to raise money for her when she was pregnant with me, a few stuffed animals which were given to me the day I was born. I just turned 34.
I have a Roman coin that is somewhat more than 1600 years old. My mother gave it to me.
