No, she picked it up in Bath, England about 10 years or so ago. Apparently a trove of Roman coins had recently been discovered there and they were not unreasonably priced.

I long ago chewed the eyes off, the plastic snout was dented when I was still little and never undented (does anybody do Body Work on teddy bears?), and it still plays “Brahms’ Lullaby” when you wind up the crank. well, kinda. Some of the tines on the music box’ blittle glockenspiel have apparently broken off, and it can’t play some of the notes. So if you didn’t already know it was supposed to be Brahms’ Lullaby, you might not guess it from what comes out.
I also have a plastic Mighty Mouse doll from the same time. I useed to chew on the ears, and all the paint’s gone from there. Probably highly toxic.
I have several dresses that I wore as a baby. They are now grumble 51 years of age. My favorite thing is the Chatty Cathy doll I got as a 3 year-old. She’s now about 47, and in more need of plastic surgery than I.
Thanks for the link to the doll hospital, Shirley Ujest; it’s just what the doctor ordered for Cathy. She still makes some sounds when you pull her string.
