B- on scenery but A++ on weather.
Buddha said “All true roads lead through mountains.” But that may have been metaphorical.
I like low humidity, moderate temperatures, and mountains. I’m most happy in Downeast Maine, on the coast, in July or August. You can swim in the ponds during the day, and have a fire in the fireplace after sunset. And eat home cooked organic produce and seafood.
Here would be my favorite. Mostly sunny, with all rain confined to between midnight and 6 AM. Beautiful beaches with calm surf and the water always between 75 and 80. And no mosquitos. I love Barbados; the weather is mostly fine, but the water is often too choppy. The temperature a bit warm (basically high of 86 winter and summer). But they have mosquitos and they carry Dengue fever.
I prefer a climate where I never, ever need long sleeves. Frequent rain intervals. For landscape, I like an open vista, rolling landscape, trees to break the horizon.
Pepeekeo, Hawaii. (Just north of Hilo on the Big Island.) Highs in the low 80’s, Lows in the high 60’s year round. High humidity readings, but being close to the water means the constant afternoon Trade Winds blow it away. Around 150 inches of rain a year, but it falls mainly at night. And one never has to worry about watering the garden that grows fruits and vegetables all year. T shirts and short pants all year long. Great views of the ocean to the West and the Mauna Kea Volcano to the East.
I already said San Diego but damn, I see more options. Not far north of where I was conceived, Pismo Beach, is superb Morro Bay. (Pismo is meh now.) Antigua Guatemala is muy bueno but San Cristóbal de las Casas a ways north of there is higher, milder, and less seismic. Can’t beat La Antigua’s views, though, and Lake Atitlan looks much like Lake Tahoe except for volcanoes, chicken buses, and brightly-garbed Mayas. (Watch out for those Santiago Atitlan gals!) Ravello on Italy’s Costiera Amalfitana east of Naples was great. Naco Arizona/Sonora is usually comfy, landscape is desert-mountain lovely, and the border allows any necessary fast change of jurisdiction.
OP asked for outdoors preferences. We’re here now (central Sierra Nevadas near Tahoe) because affordably rural but not stupendous. But my preferences are clear. A California climate as around Perth, Valparaiso, San Diego, Lisbon, Naples, Haifa, if near sea level. Up in the altiplano, over a mile elevation, if in the tropics - I don’t like over-humidity - or in a desert - I dislike desiccation. I like leaving doors and windows open for comfort.
I agree with most of your requests. The only things I’ll add or change are:
I like a stretch of hot days in the summer. 80s and 90s as long as it cools off at night.
I like the 4 seasons, but please let spring have a stronghold by March. It’s past mid-April and we’re still in the 30s (some lows in the 20s) here with patches of stubborn snow on the ground. That’s what I hate the most.
Not me! My ideal climate never gets above 85F/30C. I agree that a stretch of hot days is nice, but 80F-85F is plenty hot for that.
I’m probably more tolerant of cold than you, too. I would vote for a long spring, though, because that’s probably my favorite season. I love the promise of crocus buds poking up through the snow.
Being tolerant of cold isn’t the problem. I’ve lived in NE Minnesota all of my life. We have cold weather beginning in October and it goes through April, sometimes May:mad:
I do my 2 mile walks all winter in temps from 35F to minus 30F. It’s just that by March I’m DONE, DONE, DONE with cold. I need some warmth. We don’t really have a “classic” spring. My poor daffodil leaves have been poking up for 2 weeks in amongst some stubborn snow. I’m surprised they haven’t been frozen. This morning when I walked the dogs it was 3F windchill. THREE degrees!
