What is the poetry read in the movie 'Unfaithful'?

I guess the thread title really says it all… I know they say ‘drink wine, for this is life eternal’

and

Now is the time for something something and drunken friends.

Anyone know who wrote this or where it is from?

Many thanks,
bwk

I believe it’s from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam:

Drink Wine: for here, and now, Eternal Life
Gives all the gain that Youth may win from Strife;
Roses and friends to share thy merriment:
Seize now that Joy with which to-day is rife!
How long shall I, or poor or wealthy, grieve?
How long, or sad or merry, shall i live?
Fill up the bowl! this very breath I draw,
The winds may ne’er from me again receive.

ArchiveGuy is right- it was Omar Khayyam.

I only wish I DIDN’T know this one! But unfortunately, my wife dragged me to see “Unfaithful” last weekend.

On the plus side, when I finally see “Attack of the Clones,” I can keep telling myself, “It’s not as bad as that Richard Gere one… it’s not as bad as that Richard Gere one… it’s not as bad as that Richard Gere one…”

Well, that is not exactly the verse, but I’m sure that is where they drew it from.

Oh, was Richard Gere in that movie? Was there anyone else in that movie? I was too busy scoping out that lovely French newcomer Olivier Martinez. Yum. Just seeing him and hearing him speak were worth the price of the ticket.

Yeh, I appreciate anyone admitting that they saw the movie. I’ll admit, I’ve seen it twice. I had to get another look at the guy, he makes my eyes so happy. I like the poetry too.

Oh! I forgot to thank you, ArchiveGuy… I am looking at the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam online now, and it is really something. It also mentions Venus and Jupiter close together, and that is something you can see in the sky right now. Kind of interesting.

Your translation may vary.

You’re welcome, bwk, and as for you astorian: I would rather sit through Unfaithful 5 more times than sit through AOTC again once.

I’ll give you a big amen on that, Archive guy…

I’d rather sit through just about any movie rather than AOTC, and I really tried to like it!

Well, now maybe if it had had the cutie French guy in it… well, no, not even then.
